Good day ladies and gents.
Just an appreciation post towards BMW's diesels.
I recently installed a downpipe and stage 1 file on my 2011 120D E82 LCI Auto. I contemplated for a decent amount of time, did extensive research on various forums, and finally decided to bite the bullet since the car surpassed the 200 000km mark. This conversion completely transformed the car as she went from 117wkw & 360nm to an astonishing 150wkw and 450nm. Also, I must confess, I was not seeking any performance gains as my only intention was the benefit of the downpipe- reducing of back pressure and cooler turbo temperatures. The software was just to blend everything together.
What about sound?
The sound is slightly amplified on idle- a deeper tone. In gear, when I drive and let off the throttle, I am treated with some harmonious turbo sounds. Normal driving there is no visible smoke, but when you give it some beans it emits a once-off puff of smoke. I must say, these x20d cars really responds well to these minor mods. Relatively speaking, this is way more than enough power you want from a daily.
I bought the car on 170 000km and I never experienced a day's problem thus far. My average fuel consumption sits on 6.5/100km: in-town and highway combined.
The car just had a major service at BMW after this conversion and in between I do oil changes every 8500KM or so. I plan to drive her for another 5 years as the driving pleasure I get is so advantageous and she never lets me down in terms of reliability.
Any advice going forward?
Regards
