12 km for 5 litres....

Ok...so I'm very confused, E46 touring 318in just had motor done over and driving it in. To my amazement, I get 12 km off 5 litres....what can the cause be?its not the computer reading, went to throw in R100, tank moved to half, then drove 12 km's, now on quarter. Computer shows 11.1 km's per litre...

Possible problem with the fuel level sensor? How much was in the tank before you put in a R100 worth of fuel?

Hi there...

It was on the reserve light...all the way on the light. I put in R100 then tank went halfway between quarter and empty. I drove for about 5 km and light went on again.then, put in another R100, went to half, drove 12km now back to quarter....does this mean that the sensor is just buggered or just using too much fuel?

Sounds like either a fuel leak or stuck injector, did they reconnect the O2 sensor.

if it's just been rebuilt I would go looking for wires they forgot to reconnect first

you cant judge like that mate...fill the tank and run it for 100km - then fill up and work back from how many liters you used.
Those gauges are not that accurate.

11.1 per KM is about right. I avg between 10 and 11 per 100 with gopher mixed driving

Hi you had a problem with the ideling and smell of old petrol when you started the car How did you get that sorted out.I have the same problem.

The petrol smell is, like all other things that we don't have explanations for, 'normal' and does not indicate a leak as such.

On the other hand, I read the post and thought you might be driving a 540

Aslo remeber R100 is 10 l. My guess is f sensor. Just did nelspruit in gopher 698km on a tank. Avg speed was 111km/h
