118i fluctuating power

Hey all,

Just bought a 118i M-Pack Manual - awesome car!

I always drive the car in Sport+.

However I find that sometimes there is alot more power (boost) - does anyone else find this? Its not weather or time dependent.

The car has 30 000km on it.

When there is less boost - you can still feel the turbo, and it dumps, but the pull is less.

Any ideas?

Pms? No idea. Well on my 125i it feels like it goes flat when there is a fuel or tire presure low warning. But that is probably just in my mind.

Haha. no idea how to explain it really. Wondered if anyone else has experienced this. Doesnt seem like it though...

I log plenty of vehicles and the 118i was one of the biggest surprises.It is a real little fire cracker and i think highly underated.
What i did find with testing was that the quality of fuel was very important and had quite an effect on the numbers.I add 10% ethanol to all BMW's before i take them to the track (as allowed check your fuel cap)and have found with that mix the figures remain very stable. :thumbs:

when the tank runs below half the car limits power i feel. i feel this on the M and the 118i. keep it above half and it feels like a different car.

Thanks for the replies all! The car has since been back to BMW and they have apparently cleaned all filters and reset all. It does seem to be running more consistently. As phantom says -
The engine is great and I think underrated.
