Hi guys,

I'm a BMW virgin and hoping to change from my 350z to an F20 118 in the near future.
Does anyone own one/have any advise/things to lookout for?
Any specific add-ons that you "couldn't live without"? (I'm hoping to buy new)

Thanks!

might be a bit of a let down after a 350z :fencelook:

Yeah I'm deffinitely not getting it for the sporty-side, will need a family car in the near future so the 350 will unfortunately not do. Looking more towards 4 seats, boot space and fuel economy.

Why not consider something like a year or two old 335i for almost the same price. A definite performance improvement from your Datsun with some practicality thrown in for good measure.

Ha, not a bad idea, but I get the feeling a 335 won't be much lighter on fuel that the Datsun? Consumption would be a big factor in the next buy.

Yeah thats about what I get with the Z, around 9 on the open road, 10 day to day (no serious traffic) and it all goes pear shaped once in the thick. I hear the guys talking 5.5 in the open with the new 118 and high 6es in the mix, but obviously without AS much entertainment as a 6cyl.

Well the question you have to ask, do you want a full family car or a family car when they in it?

Im a guy, i wanna eat some S3's when im alone, but im a dad aswell so a Velocity would kill me  when i got the wife and baby with.

its up to you man, you want play time with safety and comfort with some power or just a family car?

Have you conciddered going the 320d/330d route??
You can get a nice 2nd hand one, still under motorplan, for the same price...no, cheaper that the price of the 118.
I could get a 320d, 2010 model, with 16k km's on the clock for R285k at Leo Haese Centurion, and that was a month ago, so if i were you I would SERIOUSLY think about going the diesel route.

Im with Cois on this one, for a fam-jam I'd also do the 330d or 320d.
1 questions: Was this your decision or your wife's? :fencelook:

Thanks for all the tips gents, a big reason for going with the 118 is that BMW is currently having insane specials on them, a second-hand 320/330/335 will put me back in the same financial position that i'm currently in, but with 2 extra seats=not ideal. A friend of mine has a 320d and I love the car, it's powerful, comfortable and spacious, but just slightly our of my reach me thinks.

Ha, no it wasn't the wife's decision, she's not the wife yet so there's no say in my car choice - I'm simply thinking about the near future, I hear getting married is pretty damn expensive. And then your life ends.

Hi Guys!! I'm also new and pretty much in the same boat as you!!! Would actually want a 135i, but it's too unpractical for us.

I've also been looking around at F20's. Got in touch with a bmw dealer this week so will be giving updates as soon as I hear something back. Where did you see the specials, oneone8?? Because since my first enquiry about 2 weeks ago till this week, the leather seats for one has gone up by about R3000!!!

I was at a dealer on Tuesday and I don't know about any specials..

Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread I just think it's pointless to start another one with the same info.
