ok guys,my friend wants to mod his mini, now before the rich and mighty get here,he cannot just sell and buy the jcw one
unless ur selling one for 50k
so are these motors easy to mod?or sould he look at a turbo conversion,is this a citroen engine or the chrysler version
any help will be appreciated

For the amount of money he is going to spend to make it force induced. He is better off buying the S version. It's a much easier platform to gain power.

He will have to live with an intake, cam and exhaust upgrade with a tune. Even with that alone, you're looking at 10k. Might gain 20+whp, but don't expect too much.

not sure about the engine make.

But it shouldnt be a problem strapping a turbo to this motor with standard internalls.Obviously it will be a very low boost system like 0.4bar boost or even 0,9bar if you drop the compression with a copper gasget...

It all depends on his budget - if he has around R20,000 to spend on mods he can get a decent low boost turbo system fitted which is reliable and good fun..

I would not waste my money on N/A mods the gains are not worth the money spent on it

Agree with Mike.

If it's a N/A Mini I would suggest keeping the car stock and save up for a Cooper S, else you'll end spending lots of money and you will still not easily be able to match the performance of a stock Cooper S.

Don't get me wrong, but you can throw R50k at a standard N/A Mini to make it as fast as a Cooper S, but come time to sell the car, that R50k is money down the drain. In fact, you'd get far less than book value because of the mods. If money is not an object, then go for it. If your friend is on a budget, don't bother with modding a standard Mini.

Dont let the power ratings fool you.its a monster in disguise:ka-boom:

The jcw makes more power but for the money spent and power gains it is not worth spending that buck.

To give you an idea of what class the cooper s (turbo version) is in - so take into consideration how much power these cars make more than the cooper s - its not about the power but how well everything is engineered to work togehter.

ford focus st (+-175kw) = cooper s 1 lenght pulls it
ford focus st (stage 1 ) =cooper s neck on neck
mazda mps (+-190kw) = cooper s 0,5 clenght
audio18T = cooper s 1 lenght
golf 5 gti = coopers 1 lenght
golf 5 gti (modded) = cooper s behind 2 lenghts
golf 6 gti = cooper s neck on neck

I have even had a race on an open highway with a ford st ,geared down to fourth floored it max my clock out speedo (245km/h) (gps = 132km/h) then only he cought up because he has bigger top end

+1

It's also not about the power this car makes, but just the way it drives. IMHO, the Cooper S is the most fun you can have outside of an ///M car :evilish:

My only problem with the new Cooper is that it's a Peugot engine

There are some design flaws as well. One of them being the carbon build like the Audi RS4 suffers from.

The engine is not as robust as the R53 is.

This is my modified R53 against a stock Focus ST. This was when it was mildly modified. It currently getting the internals changed out and then the fun begins ;)

Are we missing something? He said its a Non JCW not non S

If it is a S theres lots you could do, if not rather sell the Cooper and put the extra 25k to buy a R53 Cooper S and use the change to mod it!

Mikes R53 FTW! :in-love:

@mikeBMW nice runs hey....what mods and power do you make???

What I understood he has a N/A mini.

But the bottom line is that there is not such a huge difference between the jcw and cooper s....UNLESS you have an extra 60 odd thousand to spend the JCWfor minor gains PERFORMANCE wise.

if he has the cooper s turbo or super charger - the possibilities are endless and power gains enormous!!!!

:hidden: geez, and to think I'm happy with just my normal Cooper, all stock lock n barrel of its under-speed :ninja: awesomeness.
