sad  Thinking of selling the daily and not sure about price
Hi Guys,

I am thinking of selling my 2008 e70 X5 3.0d.

I've been driving her as a daily and just got over 190 000kms. I have full service history from when I bought her in 2018 from the previous owner and since.

The only work needed on the car is the front control arms which I'm planning on doing next month. Other than that, I haven't had any issues and have really enjoyed her.

I've looked online and seen prices for my car at roughly R180k but it seems a bit high to expect to be able to sell. Does anyone have an idea of how much I should expect to be able to sell for?

I know there is a thread to get book value but I've experienced that when the cars get older, the market prices normally differ a bit.

His: E70 2007 X5 3.0D
Hers: E84 2012 X1 2.0D

Ex: E92 2008 325i
Ex: E90 2007 320i

Works in Progress:
W126 1989 300SE
E36 1997 328i Individual (It's getting expensive Argh)

As the OP stated-market prices usually differ from book values as vehichles get older which is why he is asking for a market related guideline instead

Just to give you an idea, my brother traded in his 2010 X5 3.0d with 180k km towards the end of last year, eventually got R160K after initially being offered anywhere from R120K to R150K at a couple of places. Think privately R160K for yours would be a good starting point.

It’s scary what the guys offer for your car when you want to sell, even if it’s clean. Where are these cars when we are looking to buy coz then these deals are no where to be found

RE: Thinking of selling the daily and not sure about price
People are desperate at the moment for cash.

I go and offer a low price, if guy doesn't like I ask him to outright give me his best price he wants for the car. Then I either say yes or no depending on if I want to pay that much.

Its very much a buyers market on the older cars at the moment in my opinion. If you start off with a good price (not toooo low), you will find a good buyer much quicker.

But it all depends. Start with what you value the car at yourself, then compare to trade in values and what other sellers ask. Usually sellers ask far too much because they know they will get low balled offers to downright crazy insane low offers. Be prepared for that. If the price is reasonable you just have to stand firm by it.

Been to “We buy cars” and they have some nice cars there but most of the cars seem suspect so not sure what you make of it.

You can go to their website and get an evaluation as if you want to sell.

Here is also a link where you can get a value,
https://www.valueyourcar.co.za/
They SMS and email you then lastly you can follow that thread for book values. I also used it as a guide.

RE: Thinking of selling the daily and not sure about price
Thanks for the import all,

I am getting conflicting pricing everywhere.

If I look on cars.co.za here, I'd say I feel safe looking at R160K and less?

What do you guys think? Want to put it up this month and would appreciate the feedback.
