Ford Ecosport 1.0 Ecoboost - Info
Hozit guys,

Anyone here that has one or has had one or even knows someone that has one?

Looking at a 2018 model with low KMs but i see earlier models mostly overseas had various issues from clutch, leaking, heating issues, ect.

Any issues on them that you personally experienced as this will be my wifes new car and dont want to buy something that will give us endless issues.

As far as im aware, the one we are looking at should still have remainder of around 4 years warranty en service plan.

Thank guys

Hopefully someone that owns one of these can chime in. I know earlier models had issues with security, not sure if that has been rectified in later models.

Personally I HATE the awkward design of the car.. Fencelook

My wife absolutely loves them.

As far as im aware the security issue has been identified and people had to book their cars for the fix.

I can speak for the Fiesta ecoboost 1.0.

Very reliable cars. All we ever did was service, owned from new for 57k km. Nothing ever broke. Well built but not as sturdy as say a polo on the road.

You have to be in 1st over speed bumps etc. In traffic you will find yourself moving through 1st and 2nd often. It always seems like the wrong gear.

They are light on fuel and once in boost are good on the highway.

My wife and I took one for a test drive earlier in the year. I just couldn't gel with the thing, felt awkward to drive. I'm not biased, but don't buy Ford Fencelook

The wife has the 1.0 and I really do like it. We bought it with 28k km on the clock. It now has 40k and it's on its 3rd engine. Keeps breaking cylinder 3 and Ford can't tell us why? Apart from that I agree, speed bumps you will be back in 1st gear, but on the highway it's actually a great drive.

I have one but the Powershift and it’s an awsome little car. I really enjoy driving it, the Powershift gearing is very smooth and quick. Got it for about a year and no issues to report. It’s quite nippy for a 1.0.

Not sure if you have driven the Powershift, if not give it a try and decide. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Love them, love the shape, the consumption is insane and they are nippy little things. Would love one as a second car one day or if I ever sold the Z that would be the car I buy.

My Girlfriend has a 2104 Ecoboost Powershift.
I drive it every weekend, and take on our long trips where the roads are not so great.

What a great car! its on around 40 000km, not a single rattle.
The drive is excellent. Great chassis, great feel through the steering wheel.

consumption sits at around low 8's with city commutes, long distance anything from 6-7l/100km.

Its surprisingly nippy an puts a smile on my face every time i drive it.
Enough power for my SO to safely over take other cars in traffic.

No issues thus far luckily

i would definitely recommend it

RE: Ford Ecosport 1.0 Ecoboost - Info
We got the 1.5 auto (powershift??) a year ago for my sister in law and she loves it. I personally think the 1l turbo will be the better buy. We got one from Avis, one year old car with 4 years of warranty left. Bought an extra warranty to make it full service plan for seven years minus the one year. Car looked and drove like new when we got it. 2017 Model and had on 27k kms iirc.Got it for about R60k less than what they were new. Friend who's wife has the 1l turbo says it is the best car he has had and if he has to sell his cars he would keep the Ford. He is a big Audi fan so it is quite understandable!!

RE: Ford Ecosport 1.0 Ecoboost - Info
Great thanks for all the replies, helps alot.

Will be test driving a 2016 model i think today with 61k on the clocks. From what i have been told, the 1.0 3 cylinder is much faster than both 1.5 petrol and diesels and even on paper it is.

I guess one can have issues with any car that you buy but as long as i get one with service plan and warranty then i will be happy.

My wife drives like 15km to work and back from kempton to jetpark daily and then we will probably use this as the weekend car.

I have read about the powershift boxes having issues and being quite expensive to repair so for piece of mind i would rather go manual.

Applied for a 2017 1.0 Ecoboost and should be taking delivery in the next two days.

The ecoboost engine has won 10 international awards and 6 years consecutive best engine award globally.

The previous or early ecoboost engines suffered from headgasket failure, overheating and some water pipe that breaks which also causes overheating but all these issues have since been resolved with the newer models.

Im getting more people saying they are awesome than not, and the one we are getting has manufacturer warranty left and only 61k on the clocks with full service history. I checked with ford and no repairs were ever done or claimed.

Drove it yesterday and it really drives well for a 1.0 turbo 3 cylinder and will be perfect for getting to work and back as well as the occasional long distance trip ect.

The wife is set on the ecosport ecoboost so if thats what she whats, she will get....rather than the clio 66kw she also likes..yuck

Nice one bud. I'm sure your going to enjoy it!

So after reading the comments above about how they had to go into 1st gear over speed bumps I did some observations yesterday on my one route home where I am faced with a couple speed bumps.

I own a z4 35i with a n54 motor packing quite a punch, it has the DCT gearbox and when I left it in normal drive mode and went over those speed bumps it geared down to 1st too so I'm not sure what the big deal is? Maybe I just drive over speed bumps carefully as to not wreck my suspension?

@Osiris, Any sporty car coming down to 1st for a speed bump is pretty normal.. I take most speed bumps in 1st, so as to avoid any part of the car touching/scraping and to look after the suspension.. The car makes up for it everywhere else, as I am sure is the case with your Z.

Coming down to 1st gear in a SAV, a vehicle that's supposed to 'bound' over small obstacles, is where I see a problem.. I can see this being bothersome, specifically in manual guise, where you need to change yourself.. Hell, my dad's A4 takes certain bumps in 3rd Rollsmile

Changing to 1 from 2 in a manual car is difficult to do while rolling. The gear doesn't take that easily. 1st gear is only selected when coming to a halt generally. If you try to go over a speed bump in 2nd gear the car will vibrate quite a bit because the motor is laboring as it is below boost rpm. Its annoying but you get used to it I guess. I never got used to it but my wife did.

The revs are unusable below 1500rpm pretty much. That is the point of being forced to go into first gear.

I must say that is why i love my 120d, sit in traffic idling in 1st with foot of the clutch, can go over bumps in 2nd no issues and almost pull away in second hahaha

Luckily where we live and the road my wife takes to work and back has no bumps so thats okay atleast.

Can you share where you got your info from about the Powershift boxes ?

I know of one or two modded ones that are still running fine.
