E90 Gearbox
This past week i was chatting to a buddy who has a 335i , who has the common "clutch out of spec" issue on his transmission.

After discussing the prices quoted to fix etc, and knowing i am on the forum, he asked if i had heard anyone whose done the gearbox refurb and i actually realized, i have never heard of anyone on here who did the refurb and mentioned it.

Has anyone ever done a full gearbox refurbishment?
was the car reliable and normal after that?
Did it remain reliable long time after that?

RE: E90 Gearbox
ZF are one of the companies that fix the transmissions.

i am asking has anyone actually taken the plunge, and got the box refurbished at ZF, or any other specialist?

And were they happy and confident with the gearbox afterwards?
did they ever have an issue again?

I see no one here has actually ever commented on this, so just wondering,as my friend got quoted 40K, and that's quite a lot to commit to.

Hi

Had my E90 6HP gearbox refurbished at ZF Germiston 3 years back. New Mechatronic, Torque Converter and Clutch Packs. Cost R40k and no issues thereafter. The same repair at BMW would have cost over R100k.

RE: E90 Gearbox
BMW replaced my E90 6HP box under plan in 2014 with what I assume would have been a refurbed box.

It's done just under 100k km and still good, just did xhp flash last week and covered about 800km since and its perfect.

RE: E90 Gearbox
Ah that's good to hear

i see a lot people mention gearbox issues etc, but then that's all you hear.
You never hear of the choice to repair, and the outcome and experience.

So its seems it is a worthy cost, especially if the car is almost paid off.

After spending between 25-40K you would definitely want peace of mind.

RE: E90 Gearbox
I have not had a gearbox repaired but I have done the Preventative Service at ZF recently, and if that is anything to go by you are in good hands at ZF, they will sort out the gearbox, very professional team there.Thumbs
