BMW not starting for months now - don't know what to do
Hello fellow fanatics. I urgently need advice concerning my 2006 330d Auto. A couple months ago while driving the car, it suddenly accelerated by itself, revving into the red. My fiance switched the car off quickly and pulled over. From there, the car does not want to switch back on. I have had it at a shop for months now (not gonna mention how much I have already paid), yet the car will still not start. The following has been done:
Replaced the:
*Crank sensor
*Glow plugs
*Glow plug module
*Intake gasket and seals
*Diesel Pressure Sensor

Checked the:
Turbo
Diesel Pump
Compression (cylinder 1 was a bit low but other 5 fine)
Cleaned Injectors

Diagnostics done and cleared
Key and imboliser reading one another

What on EARTH could be the problem?? Please if anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated. I'm paying thousands in labour alone and the guy can't even figure out what is wrong with the car...

Would be interesting to know which initial error codes were thrown when the car died the first time. That would be a basis to work from.

If the timing is out the car would also refuse to start. So many variables we groping in the dark.

The crank sensor was the initial error code

One of the speed sensors also came up as an error but has been replaced as well

If you check the car with a diagnostics and you crank it are you getting and engine speed?

Have you tried unplugging the MAF and see if the car will start?

Is there enough fuel in the tank? Sometimes one overlooks the obvious.

Nothing comes at a higher price than that which is free.

Yes, we also thought that. We put in an extra R100 of diesel just to be sure

RE: BMW not starting for months now - don't know what to do
The key in the story is the runaway experienced before the terminal failure, runaway can occur when either oil or fuel is burnt in the combustion chamber, Traditionally when a diesel engine experiences runaway it is based on a hole'd piston or broken ring if it is oil causing the problem.

The older style diesel with fuel pumps that meter out the fuel volumes also can go wonky and cause the same symptoms but in the case of your car which is common rail then it is an injector that is to blame.

Lastly if you do not have the correct diagnostic tools with a modern bmw then your dead in the water. Items like rail pressure, injector coding, etc are all needed to diagnose your specific problem.

i would hazard a guess that one of two items has occurred, A) you have a cracked/holed piston or B) you have a dud injector which is killing the rail pressure.

Perhaps after these months of problems of no solution with your present mechanic would be to get the car to someone else.

This definitely sounds like you had a runaway engine. Darkside Performance recently had this with their m57 330d as well and replaced the whole block.

This is very much Runaway, Experienced it once on a 1.9TDi

Did you do an EGR delete by any chance?

Ok, so we have the problem - the injectors are ruined... Where will I be able to find the cheapest place to get replacements? It will have to be as cheap as possible as I am broke by now BlueCry

RE: BMW not starting for months now - don't know what to do
oh dearBlueCry
I feel for you. Injectors don't come cheap. If you can find second hand from somewhere reliable then you'd be saved
But is your engine problem just an injector issue or are they part of a bigger problem that's causing the car not to start.
Why not check out a rebuilt or reconditioned engine from engineers who do them and see what that could cost compared to the likely overall costs of fixing a problem that's not yet been fully diagnosed.
This will just help you with info, so you widen your options

I cant see how all the injectors went bad at once. Take them to a place and have them cleaned and let them pressure check after the clean which one is bad.
