New car choices

Hi guys, I think my previous topic has changed somewhat and is now misleading. Apologies for the additional thread but I tried to change topic but can't seem to do it.

Anyway, a little history; my wife currently drives a 07 Rav4 2.2d4d vx model which is the top spec (keyless entry, leather, 4x4 6 speed, electric driver's seat)
I drive a Corsa bakkie but also have a 2013 Navara that I don't use and hope to sell soon.

I'm now considering to keep the Rav4 for me and replace the SO's car with one of the following. Minimal driving to be done since I have a fleet card for whichever vehicle I drive.

I will also consider Audi Q3 and Q5. Budget is around 200k. Car of choice will only be a runabout for SO to and from work and Rav4 will be the worker.

Try test drive the X1 & X3.
You will experience the bmw genetics in both and it may come down to your space requirements.

I own the X3 and X1 2011 20.d models and enjoy both. The X1 is lighter on fuel and both are Xdrive.

Cool thanks. I drive the 2x X3's and they are awesome. It does feel a little heavy but power is not an issue at all.

The other factor that stands out for me is the multiple discussions about the getrag Vs zf gearbox.

Again with no BMW experience, any advice is appreciated. I'll be contacting BMW tomorrow with VIN checks

Hi guys. So I went to test drive all of the cars above. I must admit that I prefer the X3 with the smoother gear changes and slightly more space. The X1 23d is definitely faster but you feel all of the gearshifts. The spec of the X1 above is similar to that of the white X3. It had quite a few scratches on the touchscreen display which is noticeable when not illuminated.

20d with 2TB gearbox usually can fit BMW PPK in.
With PPK, 20d is close to 23d/25d performance.

I enquired about this car when I was hunting for a 30d X3. This one was involved in an accident and thereafter facelifted.

Hi,

If the SO drives short distances or much in traffic, then a turbo diesel may not be the best option. The DPF may get clogged and cause expensive problems down the line.

A good petrol may be the better choice, unless the car will be given sufficient long distance running.

Also, why not consider one of the Japanese brands, given that 2 of your vehicles are already Japs? X-trail or CX5 2.0 petrols are quite good.

Thanks for that info. I'll open its legs from time to time and do a nice trip although for the most part, the car will do 40km per day and rest most weekends.

As far as Japanese brands go, the SO likes the CX3 but it's out of the budget, the CX5 is too big. My wife is 1.45m tall/short

Not sure why the above post is duplicated and also missing some info. Anyway, I also found the following X3

2011 BMW X3 20d Msport
143k mileage
Dealer maintenance upto 100k after which RMI took over
Car is based in Durban.
Full Msport spec I believe with 18 inch wheels, sunroof, PDC, voice control and whatever else that means.

Basically, I want one with black leather, sunroof, PDC, auto zf. Finishes are not of too much importance. I have a 3 year old who will most likely think of innovative ways to damage whatever we get:dunnoanymore:
Price is 200k however they are going to see what price they can offer me. The car has been there for just over a month.

I'll probably create a thread asking for assistance to go and view on my behalf soon.

Yes. Are we considering the same car?
It was on my list but after hearing it has comments of an accident I passed.
Might be a good purchase if repaired well though and I was told it has a new set of tyres on.
