Decat or not ? 3.0d f15 X5
Hi Guys

Opinions please , my x5 f15 3.0d (2015) has now 104 000 k's on. Do I need to Decat at this stage ?

Its services is up to date as per bmw , it gets driven hard in town and on long distances ( normal cruising 2100 rpm and 3000 rpm), get used weekly in the dunes so the engine is NOT lazy.

What are your suggestions regarding a decat ? Oh , it was remapped about 40 000 k's ago so to write it out will not be an issue

Thanks , is it in/on the exhaust system or at the exhaust ? Lives in swakop and good quality workshops is far and between , one good guy Namib dyno , but I like to be informed before I leave my baby in somebody elses hands

Yes correct, it's connecting the exhaust to the turbo

Decat with your remap is a great decision. You will feel the difference immediately. Reduced backpressure and more power. Thumbs

Better fuel consumption too, if you drive the same, which you won't, because more power.

Ok booked for next tuesday. Will a decat only get rid of excess heat or is there an kw and nmt advantage ?

Your car will be slightly noisy Fencelook
Don't look only at the two pros the guys mentioned here, I would do a research on the cons as well. Personally I wouldn't want a noisy car. The turbocharger has been designed to withstand the heat, it can take that without any issues. If you are not going to do a sw remap, I don’t see a point in removing the cat unless you are after the loud exhaust sound.

That I can live with , at this stage it only makes a wooshing sound in the dunes...……. the wranglers and fj's sounds like sixes. Owner from Namib dyno says at normal speed a diesel sounds like a diesel...…..Skit

Be it may , he says maybe 5% hike in power and nmt but you will probably not feel it in that engine. It will spool up faster and more importantly , get heat away quicker at the cost of a bit of smoke depending of remap , Already did remap so if need to will rewrite map .

kw will bumpo to 246 and
nmt 676 .

Limiters is removed as well

If you have a remap or planning to change to a different map, then I would remove Thumbs

RE: Decat or not ? 3.0d f15 X5
I knocked out the cat on my car (2011 X3 3l diesel F25) and only noise increase was at idle as the exhaust now emits a nice free flow sound (for lack of a better word/description). People that know little about cars have even commented upon the nice sound! So do it! My car is booked for a remap next Tuesday. Will report back. Btw., the F25 3l diesel has only the cat right after the turbo and then a big sideways silencer right at the back of the car behind the rear bumper. No other silencers!

So no need for a 335 style exhaust setup with a single/no box to make a diesel loud? Thanks for saving us all lots of money.

Also, I’m sure all the people with high mileage diesels, still on stock turbos, will agree that keeping the cat/dpf in is the secret to doing so..Skit

Jokes aside - @lebofa, you need to do some reading up before posting something up bud. You’re really misinformed in this instance. Thumbs

Talk about false information Rofl

The op already has a remap!

The CAT is there for emissions purposes only!

I've heard someone else here also saying the car will be noisy. Is that not true? I have a 330ci I considered decatting too but i worried about possible noise and change in exhaust tone. I love the tone of that exhaust -still original at 19years and if it will make a noise I'd rather not do it. Are you saying it will improve the present sound or amplify it? ...in a good or bad way?

Did the decat today .

on a warm day there is a marked difference low down AND I HEAR A SLIGHT difference in the garage when vehicle is idling ……. a faint but clear whistle.

Map will be redone this afternoon to delete cat and see if anything else needs finetuning. On the vehlicle's comp there is a 5-10kw difference in max kilowatt , not enough on that only to feel a difference

Have you loaded the new map?

What error codes are you getting?

No faults except this .

Pulls like a beast under 200 . Above 200 error comes on and limit power. Does this with old and new map . Why speed related ?

No fault if i go into computer[Image: img-20190307-wa0004_4583671721.jpeg]

You need to get the car scanned with a proper diagnostic like Insta-d, the fault codes will be stored on the cars memory...

Without getting the car scanned it's like shooting in the dark...

It could be boost, fuel or timing related, seems like it's coming on only when the engine is under max load...
