Rainbow We chat to the founder of the ARRIVE ALIVE campaign
Some of you will recall that every end of the year this forum reminds the members of the importance of the Arrive Alive campaign and to be extra careful on our roads.

Today, I had an opportunity to ask Advocate Johan Jonck, the founder of the ARRIVE ALIVE campaign a few questions and to get to know him a little better.

1. Johan, what is your responsibility at Arrive Alive?

I started the Arrive Alive website in 2003 having lost my mom in a road crash at a very young age of 2 years and 10 months

https://www.arrivealive.co.za/Personal-Note

2. What car do you drive?

2006 Volkswagen Jetta with 188,000 km on the clock

3. What is your dream car and why?

I saw one of these beautiful blue-ish BMW 7 series cars drove by and I told my uber driver on Wednesday that we should have that when we are “Big” Thumbsup2

4. Describe the Arrive Alive campaign in a few words.

An effort to create awareness of road safety and to change driver behavior… we believe an informed road user is a safer road user.

5. How did the campaign begin? What inspired it?

Arrive Alive started end of the 1998 in KZN as a short term initiative – I saw that nothing was done online by September 2002 and believed I may be able to create an important portal for road safety awareness online.

6. Do you have quick road tips for our members getting ready for the holiday and festive season?

7. Have you ever raced on a race track and how was your experience?

Not really “raced” but drove on a race track with the BMW Driving experience – I have a lot of respect for those who know what to do and are a bit cautious of speed myself. I am not much of a show -off and perhaps have seen to many crashes and visuals of crashes over the past 15 years.

8. What is your favourite holiday destination and why?

Been fortunate to go to Mauritius for a wedding [not mine] and once with my programmer – In SA I love Langebaan when it is out of season and quiet…

9. What music do you listen to on a long road journey?

Must admit that I often use the time for planning and thinking about content.. I love the more instrumental stuff....

10. Have you ever modify your vehicle and what was it? Cosmetic or a performance change?

Only when I was fortunate to have a female passenger would I say I was having an “improved” car…. I trust the mechanics from the manufacturers to know best about what the car should and should not have!

11. Lastly, what is the "must have" tool that you always carry in the boot of your car?

Emergency medical kit…. In my dreams I am still gonna one day save the life of the daughter of some billionaire with my swift emergency response and we will live happily ever after…

We say thank you to Johan and wish him a wonderful festive period and we will continue to promote Arrive Alive!! https://www.arrivealive.co.za/Arrive-Ali...ess-Online
