'10-'14 S1000RR GP/Reverse shift
Hi there, I did a search on the forum and came up empty but I do apologise if this has been discussed.

As the title states I am looking for the easiest and most cost effective way to convert a '10-'14 model S1000RR to GP or reverse shift.

I bought a wreck of a 2012 S1000RR which I am now converting into a track bike and would really like to convert the shift pattern.

There are many different solutions on the net most of which include buying complete new rearsets which can be set for GP shifting but these start from around R4k and shoot into the heavens from there. Other offers are a new shift pedal kit which are also quite expensive and need to be imported.

Has anyone found any good local or perhaps cheaper solutions?

Ok, the bike in the pic is fitted with aftermarket rearsets but you can see how the linkage is set up in the pre-'15 S1000RR. From the top of the rearset the linkage actually passes through a gap in the frame and then connects to the selector.

This pic is the kind of solution which I think will work best, but it's US$200 excl shipping and duties. This is almost identical to what BMW did on the '15+ S1000RR models. Shift pattern can be changed in less than 10 mins.

RE: '10-'14 S1000RR GP/Reverse shift
Ok I see what you mean, I am sure there is something that can be done to achieve the GP shift with a little fabrication.

Can you not simply weld a boss to the frame and fit the 15+ shifter procured through a scrap yard?

Just fabricobble your own contraption similiar to the shifter in the last pic won't be hard if you have the right tools, hell we made sh!t like that for our bikes with nothing but scrap steel and a grinder and a drill back in highschool

I find it very hard to get used to the reverse shift though especially at speed Hammerhead

RE: '10-'14 S1000RR GP/Reverse shift
DIY is my next resort, I was just hoping someone has done this before me and was willing to share resources.

The GP shift will be something to get used to no doubt. I'm doing the switch because twice now on track I've needed to shift up in a left hand bend then I end up jamming my foot into the tar. This will hopefully resolve that issue and prevent a broken foot in the near future.

Look on gumtree for a smashed RR maybe you can just buy the leaver from the newer model and fit it to your ‘12?

Thanks for the info.

BMW changed the linkage on the '15+ models to allow easier changing to GP shift pattern, just like yours.
In my previous post you can see that the pre-'15 models was very different.

Nonetheless thanks for everyone's input I eventually ordered a linkage and the GP shift is on, 1 track day under the belt with it so far.

RE: '10-'14 S1000RR GP/Reverse shift
It took a bit of getting used to. In my first session of the day, whilst catching up to a pack of other riders, my concentration lapsed and I went back to habit. Ended up taking turn 1 in 6th Biglol Normally I take it in 3rd.

That said, by the afternoon I didn't need to think consciously about the reversed shift pattern anymore it came naturally and it really made life easier on the track.

All in all, a worth while mod for any avid track rider. IMHO

RE: '10-'14 S1000RR GP/Reverse shift
Red star is very tight and technical. I also do most in 2nd and 3rd, I only hit 4th on the short straight and pit straight, and 5th only on the back straight.
