City Fuel Thirst - E70 3.0si
So our recently acquired used X5 3.0si E70 ('07) seems to drink like a fish in heavy city traffic. The On board computer shows 3.8km/l . Is this normal?

It has performance exhaust quad tips, but I did not think these can be a factor. What should we be looking out for?

Should we use use the 95 RON petrol?

any other mods done on the car that you are aware of? any dashboard EML lights on? i dont think that fuel consumption is normal.

That equates to R160 for 10 litres, giving you 38km?

Can you do a manual calculation? Full up the tank to first click, drive for a couple of days and fill up to first click again and calculate.

I dont think the 4.8i will even used that much fuel. Has the vehicle been serviced? 95 octane wont make any difference really to fuel consumption. Have you tried it on the open road?

That doesn't sound right. Maybe calculate it manually as Sash recommended ,tha OBC might be out by a bit(hopefully by a lot in your case).

That equates to just over 26l/100km which is quite insane an definitely not normal,My Z4 has the same engine with a manual box and I still get 10l/100km in heavy traffic worst case.
have the car scanned, could also be over fuelling due to the heat sensor. maybe MAF as well,

OK, noted. Let me try to measure it manually and see.

So manual measurement on highway driving (mostly between 100 and 160km/h) returned approx 8km/l. (12.5l/100km).

City is still about 20l/100km (5km/l) - but it's very slow bumper to bumper traffic in hot sun with AC blaring. I hope these figures are not far off from the others.

160km/h!!! Then that is not bad consumption. Try and give us the consumption at a steady genuine 120km/h as the consumption will vary a lot with different speeds.

Actually the 160km/h was just on very rare occasions - once or twice for a few minutes. This speed was mostly 100 - 130km/h for about 300km. But with both front and rear Aircon and a bit of heavy cargo. May be another 100kg.
