thumbdown vibration under acceleration
Hi All, I recently purchased an F10 530d and I've been experiencing vibration under acceleration above 80kph, when letting off the accelerator, it dissipates.
There is also a small vibration persistently at ~110 - 124kph.
I haven't had the wheel alignment and balancing checked, but I doubt it is that. The vibration is harder, the harder I accelerate.

Any idea what it could be?

RE: vibration under acceleration
Could it be the diff? As it is related to engine speed as you say. Does it knock at all?

Hi, no knocking sounds at all. In fact, the ride otherwise is quite smooth.

vibration under acceleration
This might sound like a silly question, but are the Tyres on the correct way?

I had this issue a few years back and it turned out that my rear Tyres were fitted inside out Bangdesk

Can you feel the vibration on the steering wheel?

RE: vibration under acceleration
I had the opposite issue. Was fine under acceleration but when i let off the gas above 120km it would start shuddering.

After months of headache replacing suspension parts and wheel refurb it was still there.
Bought another set of wheels and tyres problem gone.

Try another set before you do anything else. I could have saved lots of money and time.

Not a stupid question. I have learnt the hard way that one cannot expect good workmanship as a given these days. Confused1

I will check the wheels and have them balanced and wheel alignment done as well. Another check to do is to check the lug nuts and torque them.

You might want to get the control arms checked out as well, if loose/worn they can also caused a vibration

Bearing/s might have gone in the diff, had a noisy diff like that, replaced the bearings, diff was quiet but I also found the rear universal on the prop is gone, hardly any movement left, right, up and down, knew that would be the source of the vibration but I wanted to test to be 100% sure for future reference, fitted the diff, no noise, only the vibration, removed rear part of prop, replaced u-joint, vibration gone, I would say 1st check the condition of the u-joint at the rear and repair if necessary before forking out on a diff repair/replacement.

RE: vibration under acceleration
Place the car in drive, hold your foot on the brake and let the revs climb to about 2-3000rpm briefly holding the car in position. If you hear any vibrations or grinding or resonance its a mount, CV, control arm.

If you are doing the speed the vibration occurs at, pop the car into neutral, if the vibration disappears its in the drivetrain, check the prop, universals, gearbox mount and diff carriers.

To check your engine mounts, pop the bonnet, let your lady or a friend blip the throttle and take note of the engine movement, anything more than 2-3cm up and down would be engine mounts.

All of the above are weak components on BMW vehicles - Did engine mounts and gearbox mounts on mine at 74 000km and again at 100 000km. Control arms twice in 40 000km (ended up Polying the second set) and two front CV's (xdrive) for vibration on acceleration.

RE: vibration under acceleration
Had the same problem in my 535D and turned out to be wheel alignment so don't be to quick to rule it out and its a cheap thing to check...

RE: vibration under acceleration
Check inner CV Joints. I had that on a vehicle of mine, and was told by many different people that it might have been tyres, alignment, engine mounts, etc. Ended up taking it to a Propshaft centre and they diagnosed the Inner CV, refurbed it and it was all good.

I did not replace it as I could only get the part from the agents, and they wanted a fortune, and told me they don't supply just the CV joint, but the entire steering column... So was way tooo expensive. But the refurb did the work..

RE: vibration under acceleration
Gents, I doubt we will hear back from the OP as the vehicle is being returned to the dealership he bought it from for much bigger faults.
