Anyone removed a F22 steering wheel/airbag?
Hi.

Curious if anyone has removed or changed their steering wheel or knows someone they trust who could do this in JHB[/align]

Airbag removal seems tricky :|

If its the m sport wheel the airbag clips out. You release the clips but pushing a thin dowel or screwdriver through holes on either side. Non m sport I am not sure but on the f10 there is one spot.

Wheel itself is then easy

It's the 3 spoke m sport wheel. Really nervouse about it. Have a wheel I bought from a scrap yard that just needs the airbag but the removal or the airbag and alignment of new steering wheel is making me a tad nervous about DIY FencelookBlueCry

You dont have to worry about the alignment the steering only goes on one way.Check the arrow by the splines .

On the back of the steering you will see two small lines as per arrow 1 where you push the screwdriver in to move the locking pins as per arrow 2 wich will unlock the airbag. Its quite easy to diy. dont forget to remove one battery terminal and do not close the boot while the battery terminal is off.[Image: 1c69027a7f3bffc3284e2140edc57417.jpg]

• Get your steering wheel as straight as possible.

• Unplug battery first and press your brake peda a few times to get rid of electrical residual charge in the system.

• Locate 2 small holes behind the steering wheel, feel for them with your fingers, usually covered with excess leather so you wont see them.

• Put screw driver in and press the prong in to release the clip on either side, thereby loosening the airbag.

• There will be 2 clips with wires on them still attached to the steering, use a very small flat screw driver to release these clips.

• Remove clips for multifunction steering buttons as well.

• As per Rockfires advise...you will see the arrow marked in green, this is your center point of steering wheel and column.

• Torque wrench and socket to remove center bolt that holds steering in place. Once removed, you can safetly remove the steering wheel.

• Transfer flappy pedals and steering buttons over if the new steering did not come with them. Make sure to place all wiring alongside/inside grooves they came out of, you dont want to leace them loose and pinch them when placing the steering wheel back.

• Follow everything you did to remove the steering, but in reverse order and you should be good to go.

Best of luck and show us some before and after pics when done!
