F25 X3 2013 recommended oil
Hi guys,

So I'm self servicing my X3. Currently on 110k Kms.

I need to find out what's the recommended oil that I need to use and what else do I need to look at?

I'm also replacing the rear brake pads which seems pretty straight forward.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks guys.

RE: F25 X3 2013 recommended oil
Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 is very good. This oil is LL01, not LL04 as recommended by BMW, but many fanatics (including myself) have used it without any issue.

You could also go for Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100/4200/4605. Their properties differ slightly, but are all BMW approved and LL04. Liqui Moly oil is fairly expensive, though.

I’m currently using Liqui Moly Top Tec 4605 in my E90 330d LCI.

I’m of the opinion that 10k km service intervals are more important than what oil you are using, provided that the oil is the correct spec etc. I won’t be putting R150/5l Midas oil in my car, though.

As far as I'm aware,

LL01 for Petrol Engines
LL04 for Diesel Engines

should be fine.

What do do mean service mode? Are you talking about the service indicator? Do want to reset it?

No apparently if you push the calipers back you screw up the gearing. So the car needs to be in service mode apparently... I've never done brakes on it. So I don't know. I guess I need to ask how do you change rear brakes pads without messing with the positioning and electronics of the electric handbrake?

RE: F25 X3 2013 recommended oil
Consider servicing your ZF auto transmission also, 110k km is ideal.
We have a special running for new oil and sump/filter assembly for R3000 incl VAT.
Also get your transfercase and diff oils replaced, we can do that also for you.
