E90 320d for an F30 330d? Paid up vs finance?

Hi Guys

I Have a late 2011 E90 320d M Sport ,White with auto, I bought the car at SMG Durban and was on +/-95000km at the time, it had 2 weeks of Motor plan left , and since I was gona collect in coming from Joburg and driving back ,my sales consultant made sure the car was in tip top condition when I collected.
All 4 brake discs and pads were changed , Oil and filters were changed , the PDC unit was also changed as it was faulty and I was also told the car was updated with the latest software.
I serviced the car at BMW Leo Haese last year at 106000km , the brake fluid was also changed, last year October I fitted a set of brand new non RFT tyres so they only have +/- 8000km on them.
In December I had a worn control arm bush , so replaced All 4 control arms, upper, lower, right and left with poly bushes, stabilizer links were also replaced as well as a power steering flush..
Last week at 116000km it went in for Service at Sandton Auto, Oil change , also had the fuel filter and micro filters changed. the outstanding campaign on the battery terminal was also done. Besides the White angel eye globes I got from moe @auto xcessorize I have been strong in keeping it 100% stock.
Honestly this is the best car I’ve ever owned, my Z is incredibly special and I did enjoy my previous 2 E87s, but this , as a car in the real world has been absolutely fantastic.
It does everything comfortably and efficiently without fuss.
It has been excellent to me. Also it is paid for!

My problem right now is this, like all cars , it is depreciating in value , and I have this insanely strong itch to get an F30 330d..
But right now I am trying really hard to avoid it as the 330d will be double the money I sell the E90 for..
But then again the F30 M Sport looks slightly better , that 8 speed auto is a gem , has newer tech with the big screen and nav etc, and most importanty the 330d POWERRRR and torque!!
Head says no, Heart is saying yes yes yes!!!
So My question is , if you were me , do you keep the E90 for another few years and continue loving it but then have to sell it for 50% of the amount you bought it for…
Or bite the bullet now, sell it and get the 330d with a finance amount of +/- R150,000??

There is no greater car than a paid up car.

If it were me in that situation and I had another paid up car that is not the E90 then by all means funds permitting I would jump into the F30.
You work hard for your money and you must spend it in a way that makes you feel the most satisfied and if that now is the F30 then pull the triger.

One day you will be at a traffic light and someone will up next to you in the F30 and you will feel some type of way.

My 2C.

Follow your Gut bro... If its a 330d you want and its not gonna run your pocket dry then go for it... but whatever you do, keep the Z unless you can jump into a Z///M.

I would go for the 330d. Honestly when you drive it you will think why didn't you get it sooner. I agree that in terms of a rational decision that it isn't the best but you soon forget that with a smile on your face. I say if you can afford it, get it and enjoy. :smilebounce:

That’s the uncomfortable part
I have enjoyed the last couple of years without having to make car payments, right now I could afford it (that's why I'm seriously thinking about it) but not sure what the future holds..

Sell me the E90 :smilebounce:

But yes, you wil alwasy loose on cars and new car prices are just going up staring at them.

I think doing the move spending a bit more on newer car is what it is, and yes from the E90 to the F30 tech has changed A LOT and then going to a 330d will be an awesome upgrade

330d 330d 330d!!! :smilebounce::cartel:

Your car looks really neat mate, but I say bite the bullet and get the 330d. You only live once.

Keep the 320d.
Plug in what you would have paid in to financing the 330d into a savings account (or the access facilty in your bond for a tax free interest gain).
Dip into that fund for the odd maintenance payment for the 320d.
After x years, sell the 320d and use the savings that would have accrued to buy a newer 3 series.

Note that the depreciation on your 320d has already passed the worst stage.

However, if you can afford to buy a 330d (noting that it too will go out of plan one day and cost to maintain) and can afford the added economic costs of our dire SA situation, then go for it.

:eek:mgwaiting: Im the paid up guy. That e90 looks great still and Im certain it can do the job well also, so take the money you got extra and invest it...10 years down the line pay cash for the next awesome ride.

I asked myself a similar question a few months back? At double the price, is it double the car?

Answer is NO.

I ended up getting rid of the E90 320d, and getting the E90 330d. I wont say the E90 and the F30 330d is the same car, but I was looking at the R200 000 vs R400 000 sum, and to reiterate what I said above, there is no way the F30 with its newer tech is worth double the price.

F30 prices should drop significantly once the new 3 series comes out. Over and above the market should be flooded with F30 330d's. Wait a year or 2, your pocket will thank you.

Perhaps add some software to the 320d

Won't even come close to stock F30 330d, not forgetting 4 vs 6cyl

There is no better feeling in the world than driving a paid up vehicle.

In my opinion , A monthly car payment is what separates most guys who want a better quality of life.

I am in a similar situation.

Have 2 paid up cars and was contemplating on getting a Lumina, F30 335i or F30 330d.

Am still thinking about it but have not been paying for cars for around 2 years and to start paying again is at the back of my mind.
As the S1NGH 911 said, You only live once.
I have tentatively started looking for something

Its better quality of life, or keeping up with the Jones...

Wait till next year, then new model will be out.

Then the 2014 cars will be out of plan also, when the cars are out plan they price drop nicely. Then 2012-2014 cars should be even cheaper.

Suppose YOLO can mean something different for each.

SIPO: YOLO, I need to minimize debt, so I can be better off FINANCIALLY in the long run.

Pieter YOLO: live for the now baby, I know I am 38 and still live with my folks, but screw it!
