Paying too much for E46 330i

Paying too much for E46 330i
been looking and looking and looking for many a months now, and finally got my promotion as well which included car allowance and fuel card.

it HAD to be a E46 330i or 330d - seeing as i'm going to be doing around 3000km a month so had to get a car with low as possible mileage.

all applications submitted to the bank, approved and waiting for payout then it's off to collect her.

looked at her on saturday, jeeeeez what a nice vehicle.

following needs to be done - front bumper repainted (paint lifting/cracked right front corner, rear bumper repaint (slightly faded) and centre console replaced (the sliding thingie is moer toe)

apart from that she is drop dead gorgeous - and the sound is agnelic.

Feel R120k is too much for a 14yr old car...but mileage is low (considering), it's a 330i and has FSH, oh and it's a E46 330i, FSH, and most importantly it is a E46 330i....and there arent many in this condition left anymore.

RE: Paying too much for E46 330i
Dude thats a lovely car!

I always feel that as the cars get older, it becomes less about what the book says and more about what it's worth to you as a buyer.

If you're happy with what you paid then power to you!

RE: Paying too much for E46 330i
Personally more than I would spend and I LOVE the e46 330i.. Just the gearbox isn't even my fifth choice... That being said, if you are happy, i would say go for it.

The feel of an e46, especially the 330i motorsport is special.

Seen it before, but that car actually looks amazing. I only dont like the automatic gearbox but wow the interior looks good. Thats how you know...

Many happy miles for you. I wouldve tried for 100-110 on it.

RE: Paying too much for E46 330i
i tried and tried , they wouldnt even budge R1000 on price.
a 2004 car is not worth 120k, but a E46 in this condition i guess you're paying for what you WANT in the car and not what the book says it is worth

for it's purpose i prefer the auto as it will do it's fair share of driving

never seen the colour on a E46 before - it's same as the E90 graphite grey.

should pick it up on saturday - will load pics as soon as i get her. Thumbs

I do hope you checked in with Coisman before buying.

RE: Paying too much for E46 330i
the service history is extremely important hey, i bought my 330 at around similar mileage, and within a few months.. all sorts of stuff went wrong with it. nothing major happened, but just one thing after another broke and had to be replaced.

check if all the belts, tensioners, pully's, water pump, thermostat and radiator hoses have been done already, as those will be due. the gearbox and engine mounts, guibo and centre bearing will also be on their way out soon.

aslo, find out if that gearbox oil and filter was ever changed, or if its still the original oil in there. the guys at ZFSA told me that 160,000 is pretty much the last chance you have to change the oil. any changes after that become risky for you.

RE: Paying too much for E46 330i
I think the value in this car will come down to the service history.

The price they are asking command's an absolutely impeccable service record, and I'm not talking "Full service history with the dealer" - which is basically the bare minimum. I'm talking about preventative maintenance, and at this age and mileage, there are a lot of things that will need taken care of that could rack up a substantial bill the minute you drive it out of the dealership.

Cars are emotional purchases at best, but those sweet emotions can turn sour very quickly when you purchase an aesthetically pleasing but under maintained vehicle.

Take a look at the condition and maintenance list of AdiS vehicle when he sold his 330i - https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=65708

But once again, a vehicle is worth what the market is prepared to pay, and if that is the current market value, then so be it.

The car does look to be very clean! I note it does not have Xenons though, for such a full spec car it is odd. But it looks good!
