Rainbow E34 respray 2
After planning this exercise for a while, I finally started with repairing the terrible job the previous spray painter did on my vehicle.

Severely faded before:

stripped

Removing cracked trim

sunroof rusted

The boot had rusted again where the fin was installed 3 years ago. The previous patch job failed. We had to cut out the previous repair.

RE: E34 respray 2
Sucks you have to respray again so soon but at least you will know the rust is repaired properly this time.
Can't wait to see the progress and end result, best of luck.

RE: E34 respray 2
It was important for me to get these gaps right. The left fender had a small bump which caused it not to sit straight with the bonnet.
That is all fixed now as you can see from the pictures below.

RE: E34 respray 2
I've ordered some new rear lights from Autostyle.co.za. I was really impressed with them. They came with rubbers, wiring and bulbs!

I plan on getting some lenses for the fog lights as well.

I've got some more new things: these handles plastic covers. The old ones were an embarrassment.

RE: E34 respray 2
howsit. nice work there.
just a thought on that bootlid... surely its way less work and better to get a good bootlid at a scrapyard and just paint in the same color as the car ?
no cutting welding etc ?

RE: E34 respray 2
Anton, I hear what you're saying. It was considered, but the damage wasn't too bad that it couldn't be fixed in a day. If we experience any similar issues in the future, I will consider getting a second-hand part.

Here is some progress on that bootlid.

It's a work in progress.

RE: E34 respray 2
Nice progress....just a quick question - where did you source those door handle surrounds? I am in desperate need of them for my e34...

If you were in jhb, i would of sponsored you a better bootlid than what you got...Im also guessing that you done a complete braze all around that cut out? Wouldnt want gaps there - the auto cancer gets in anywhere...

HANG ON!!!

I got the door handle surrounds at the dealership. It came to R785.81 for all four.

Ask for part #4 for the rear.

Ask for part #1 for the front.

Did I mention that the colour we are going for is Granitsilber 237?
