VIN Etching on glass.
Where can one get this done, or is this only done at the dealerships?

RE: VIN Etching on glass.
When we bought our E46 new , I found a white plastic stencil in the manual pouch of the vin that was used by what looks like a sandblasting tool to etch the number on the glass .

So im sure if you make a stencil out of the numbers you could sandblast it onto the glass .

its a spray on. I also have the stencil for my e90. The guys that did the glass on my home also used the same sort of spray to mark the windows that are safety glass.

RE: VIN Etching on glass.
you can get the etching paint at builders. test it on a piece of glas first to determine how long you leave it on for.

RE: VIN Etching on glass.
I had no Idea it was a paint , The numbers are really deep into the glass , We had a glass sandblasted and it feels and looks exactly the same .

Does this Etching paint really eat into the glass? My E30 has the same thing as well as the Merc . I was so sure that its been sandblasted on .

RE: VIN Etching on glass.
CoolShake Its a paint (cream) - it eats glass, hence you must test it to see how long the long you leave it it will give you that rough texture.

RE: VIN Etching on glass.
Thanks for the replies guys. I have the stencil from my car as well. It looks and feels like sandblasting on the rest of the windows, that is why I thought that maybe only the dealerships are able to do it.

After reading the replies here and looking again at the stencil closely, it seems it could be painted onto the glass with a very small brush, or it could've been sprayed on to the glass as well. Either way, not sure.

When I am at, or close to a builder's warehouse any time I will check them out. Thanks for the link too, at least I know what to look for.

Another option I thought of, is that I may even stop by the local glass fitting guys and see what they do. If it's reasonably priced, then I might have them do it for me.
