UPDATE: Eco Pro vs Comfort vs SPORT (F30 LCI 330d)
Hi all,

So I decided to do a quick test to compare the fuel consumption between Eco Pro and Comfort modes.
It was mainly to determine whether the savings in fuel would be sufficient to compensate for the reduction in driving pleasure.

For the test, I filled a full tank and drove in Eco Pro mode daily, with limited usage of Sport mode now and then. I then repeated the process using Comfort mode.
Sasol 10ppm was used for both tanks. (currently performing a test between 10ppm and 50ppm).

Few points to note:
1. My daily trips are from Rosebank to Fourways. Mostly highway, but a mixture of open highway driving and bumper to bumper traffic.
2. I had the coasting option activated in Eco Pro mode. Though I'm not sure if this is the healthiest thing for the engine to be constantly in and out of gear.
3. In comfort mode, I deactivated ASS in traffic and reactivated in town for longer stops at robots.
4. The total km traveled under Comfort mode below is inflated by approx 20km in comparison to the Eco Pro because I couldn't get to a petrol station.

Below are the pictures of the trip computer readings at the end of each tank.

Eco Pro Mode:

Comfort Mode:

Conclusion (probably premature but happy with results):
1. The overall duration and speed for the 2 tanks were almost identical so we are comparing like for like.
2. The savings in fuel are negligible - I got an additional 10-20km in Eco Pro mode on a full tank.
3. I did tend to accelerate a lot harder under Comfort mode.
4. Overall, I enjoyed driving under Comfort mode a lot more and as far as I can tell, with no sacrifice in fuel consumption.

And lastly, the fuel consumption in the 330d is RIDICULOUS! Hammerhead
When I purchased the car I was expecting 7.5 - 8l/100km, but I am currently averaging 6.6l/100km.
Truly exceeded my expectations! Praise

I will provide an update with my current tank of Engen 50ppm once I am on empty CoolShake

Testing the sport mode figures under the same circumstances would be interesting.

Sport mode could be jumpy in start stop traffic though

Very good analogy Clapper

For such small differences achieved in the real world, it makes me wonder why the manufacturers even spend so much in making these different modes, and passing the costs down onto the consumer.

That box really helps make a massive difference in consumption over the e90.

Imagine what it would b like with sw

Sport mode could be jumpy in start stop traffic though

Both tanks did include some sports mode driving when I felt it was appropriate. I drove the car like I would everyday to make the test as neutral and as practical as possible.
I don't think it's practical to drive in sport mode constantly and in traffic, so I will leave that test for another Fanatic Crazylaugh

For interest sake it would be a good comparison, but I wouldn't want to do it.

I'm keen to see what the difference would be between 10ppm and 50ppm fuel

Interesting test, thank you for sharing.

Have you compared the actual usage (amount of liters used) vs te OBC readings?

Ive tested the OBC on the E90 a few times using actual usage as the control and it can be about 10% under or over.

Over and above I must say I am really impressed with the F30 330d!

That's a good point, so I have been logging all my fill-ups with an app called Fuelio (more to monitor running costs).
Overall, I filled 56.02l and 56.87l respectively. Assuming the size of the fuel tank is 57l, I think the actual usage is only a difference of 1l or so.

Interesting note, according to Fuelio, the fuel consumption for Eco Pro tank was 6.85l/100km and the Comfort was 6.74l/100km.
I suppose this takes into account the actual fuel used vs distance traveled?

Great test and even better figures from an i6 diesel.

Looking at the average speed, my wife does encounter some traffic an a little freeway, her average speed is around 38km/h over a tank

On my trip which is about 70 percent freeway my average speed is about high 50's

UPDATE: Eco Pro vs Comfort vs SPORT (F30 LCI 330d)
So out of pure curiosity, I decided to take the plunge and do a full tank in SPORT mode.

I have to say, it wasn't so bad in traffic. The only down side was that it was constantly in a lower gear than what would have been "optimal". It was also ready to provide max torque with minimal delay.

It was fun though, and I got some arm workout in as well. Steering stiffens significantly, which made parking quite an exercise.

Before I post the results, what would your guesses be as to the fuel consumption achieved. Bear in mind that I drove the entire tank with 1 thought in mind...HOW QUICKLY CAN I EMPTY THIS TANK!
