This weekend while claying my car i noticed a nice big nail in my rear tire.

I have been waiting for my tires to finish to make the move from run flats to the Nfera Su4.

I asked the owner of the kwik fit for a quote on run flats and non run flats. when i mentioned non run flats he proceeded to non recommend non run flats as my car comes with run flat rims which have a higher lip to keep the run flat in place.

So he said i run the risk of a normal tire coming off the rim, and he has encountered this from a few bmw owners Skit

Ive been waiting for my tires to finish and change all 4 to the Nexen's non run flats. But before i do, i wanted to check with you guys who have made the change to non run flats:

How have the Nfera's held up? have they handled fine with hard or aggressive driving? on long trips with heavy load, have they held up fine?

This higher lip theory doesn't make sense to me as logically a higher lip should actually aid in keeping a Normal tire in place, rite?

I have a E90 M sport with 225/40/18 and 255/35/18

Ive had the Nfera SU4s fitted to my old E87, 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear.
Changed from Bridgestone runflats and I had no issues.
I even did a trip to Durban from JHB when I traded in the car and had no trouble.
At high speeds they feel sure footed , in a straight line at least , with regard to cornering the runflats are better IMO.
But the one thing that really stands out is the ride comfort, I had an MSport so ride was quite firm and I felt quite a transformation when I had these fitted.

Current:
White E90 LCI 320d Msport - A/T
Black E86 Z4 3.0Si Coupe - Manual

1994 VW Golf Mk3 GTi
2005 BMW 118i 5Speed
2008 BMW 120i M-Sport 6Speed

video is actually very informative

Sorry, should've mentioned. Yes you are correct. 225/40/R18 and 255/35/R18

Replaced all 4 225/40/18 for R4100 balanced, fitted and aligned at Mintys pretoria

Was quoted just under 6k for 245/40/18 at Minty's the other day.

Currently have RF Continental Sport Contact 3 so I will see how it goes.

He's talking bullshit

ok good to know.

so the consensus is that it is safe and worry free to port non run flats on our Msport run flat spec rims.

time to get quotes on the Nexens then.
Ora actually, first need to find a tire for the marie biscuit spare lol

The Msport rims we have are not run flats specific. They are just normal alloys wheels on which BMW chooses to put run flats.

It is utter nonsense to say that because the rims are intended for run flats, u now must only put run flats.

By the same argument, it would mean that if you changed to an aftermarket rim like Vossen, the rim won't be spec'ed for run flats so u must change to non flatsHammerheadHammerhead

Doesn't make sense to me.

I am running 225/40/19 and 255/35/19 with absolutely no issues.

Nexen Nfera SU4 tyres are very good for the price, in fact they above what you would expect.
Mintys have them at great prices.
