Dealership Advice needed * Seriously Frustrated

Hi guys,

So I need some advice.

I purchased my 125i Coupe three weeks back from a BMW Dealership in my area. So the whole deal has been off from the beginning but I still went ahead with it because I really needed a car.

So the problem escalated last week when I sent the car in to BMW because of a vibration I had been feeling at higher speeds. They then took the car to Tiger wheel and tyre who stated that there was an air bubble on the tyre. I told them to give me the car back because that didn't seem right, I had not hit any potholes whatsoever and I previously used to work for Tiger Wheel and I know what can and can not cause a bubble. I then spoke to the customer service person at the dealership who said that check and reports were done on the vehicle and that it is not possible that the car could have been delivered with an air bubble.

Later on I looked at pictures that I took of the vehicle on the showroom floor on the day of delivery and I could see the bulge on the tyre. I didn't notice it on the day purely because I just wanted to take delivery of my vehicle and I was too busy filling out forms...I also didn't expect BMW to sell me a defective product. I sent the below pictures to the customer service individual last week Thursday and I have not heard anything till date.

The bulge in question is on the front right hand side tyre, on the left hand side of the tyre.

Now as I mentioned, this is the last straw for me as there has been headache after headache with this purchase. On the first day that I saw the car, it was not the car I went to see, but it had just come in and the salesman whom I have know for a few years told me that it was going for R249k, I went back during the week to have a chat and got the specs of the car. The next week I saw the car advertised for R239k on Autotrader. I then decided that I was going to buy the car and then sent him the link to the ad stating that this is the price and I was then told that at the price they would walk away from the sale,,,being that he is a friend of mine, I thought there was no harm and continued with the deal, on signing the deal I saw that I actually paid R259k for the car excluding the on the road fees. I overlooked this because I was in desperate need of a vehicle and fighting this then would have just delayed this whole process.

Also the day before taking delivery of the vehicle, I was called to ask if they could do the smash and grab on the vehicle at a cost of R3500, As far as I knew, the car had smash and grab but the day I saw the car I just glanced at it and that was three weeks prior so I could not be sure. I then asked the lady if the car did not already have Smash and grab and she said no, I then picked up the vehicle the next afternoon after being told that the car would be going in for the tint that same morning. Now I don't know much about tint but I am pretty sure that if your vehicle has had smash and grab fitted, you would see a sticker on the window controls saying do not open for 48hours but then nothing of that sort. I opened the window immediately. Was I charged for something that was not even done on the vehicle????

In all honesty I was not going to fight all these issues as I just needed a vehicle but I am not going to pay for a tyre on a vehicle I just purchased not more than three weeks back esp if I have not caused the damage.

What sort of recourse do I have? Nobody has gotten back to me from the dealership, do I take it up with the dealer principle or BMW SA? or am I fighting a losing battle. Can somebody please point me in the right direction

Thanks a mill guys. Really appreciate any feedback.

Wow shocking...

Firstly speak to the dealer principle. Then if he doesn't do anything BMWSA. If they dont do anything then you'd have to get a lawyer.

But I would be most pissed off about the fact that they never did the window tinting. In the pic if those were the ones use to advertise the car has smash and grab on it. They will MOST CERTAINLY tape up the windows as the tint still has to dry. I would press them on this issue mostly. Quite shocking service we get from these guys... I cant see the bubble in the photo but thats just me. I dont know where to look.

Not a very nice experience at all.. :thumbdo:
Wow that is a bad bubble, on the curve where the tyre meets the tiles?

What brand of tyres are on the car if I might ask? Can't see from the pic? The factory BadYears pop sidewall bubbles like crazy - I have lost 4 to date..

Not sure what you can do about the tyre issue, but the tinting.. For all my BMWs delivered there were stickers over the side controls..

The exact same tint is R1.5k from PG Glass. Dealership tint is a rip off. Sure the biggest blow is to charge you and not even do it?

Thanks Guys.

The bubble is towards the top of the tyre, on the left hand side of the tyre.

The car had Good Year Eagle NCT on them.

I will be chatting to the dealer principle within this week. I am quite pissed about the window tinting but even more so about a tyre that I have to replace on a vehicle I just bought especially when it was no fault of my own.

Worst of all last week I sent the vehicle in because they had to fix a scratch on the sill, they gave me the car back 3days later after saying it will only take a day and didn't even bother to wash the vehicle. This is apart from the fact that my Aux cable, Ipod, Deodorant and cologne where taken from the vehicle but that's totally my fault for leaving that there but I mean atleast wash the car :nonono:

As I said, that car would never have passed roadworthy legally with that bubble. Therefore breach of contract as it's a defective product and NOT BMW premium selection.

Let us know what happens. Please press them about the tint issue as that is the biggest slap in the face.

Events Organiser
Send an e-mail straight to BMW SA relating the whole event along with the advert etc.
They cannot advertise a car for one price and sell it for another, that's just against the law especially seeing as you knew of the advert.
Send ALL paraphernalia to them and they will get back to you with something solid.
Don't bother with the dealer principle.

Sorry buddy. Not a nice experience at all

Was this Sandton Auto?

That is ridiculous from BMW and i wouldnt let it go.

On the other hand, from BMWs perspective its not alot of issues, just one as you accepted the other problems and they might not budge on the tyre issue.

This is something we all expect. When I bought my BMW m3 e92 from the dealership. The wall of my rear tires had cuts in them. It took them 2 weeks to replace them before I took delivery. A month later I changed from 19's to 20's. When I was having a look at the old rims. I realized that there were WIRES sticking out the front right tire. So much for BMW SERVICE :nonono::nonono:

Sorry bud. No one deserved such pathetic service. Take it up straight away with BMW sa.

I had a similar 'windows tint' issue with a certain used cars bmw dealership in jhb north. Hoodwinked me out of 2k but decided to let it go. Wonder if OP went to the same dealership.

So I am in the process of getting all my information.

I see that the AD from autotrader has been removed but I still have the link. I also found pics from that ad which I sent to my SO before purchasing the vehicle...forgot I even had those.

Once I have all that I will send an email to BMWSA and the Dealership (Club Motors Randburg)

If I thought that this was the service I would be getting I should have rather taken my business to another dealership or just bought another VW:argh:

But thanks for the input guys :ty:

Of course you can. It's defective product and breach of contract. You aren't getting what you paid for.

So Yesterday I get a call from the dealership stating that they are prepared to pay for half the tyre only.

I have not sent my mail to BMW SA as I am still compiling it.

I am not happy with their offer, I will definitely send BMWSA the mail on Monday should I not get an adequate response from the Dealership:flyfun:
