The Legendary E34 M5 - My Pride and Joy

Most people including myself didn't see much at first glance, of what is a true testimony to BMW greatness.

I have been very fortunate to acquire what I consider to be an outstanding example of an E34 M5. And this is my short story.

The Acquisition

Whilst on holiday in Cape town in Dec 2013 I managed to view and drive Rick540's pristine pride and joy. And I'm not just saying this because it's mine now, I'm saying this based on all the cars I've owned, this one has been the best kept and best condition purchase I've experienced. Bar the Z4M.

The amount of attention to detail is astounding. I could write pages and pages of restoration that has been undertaken by Rick but I will simply say :

:praise: WOW :praise:

Driving the car at the coast is absolutely amazing. The induction noise is simply addictive and spine tingling.

Flicking the gears along the R44 between Gordon's bay and Hermanus was pure bliss. Bearing in mind the conventional bush linkage setup has been replaced by a much more desirable solid bearing setup courtesy of *Richard engineering - patent pending*

The Experience

After owning the car for barely 2weeks, including a road trip up from cape town, it's been nothing short of "Sheer Driving Pleasure"

I take pride in the cars I own and I can say that this car is in better shape than my E46 330d that I restored. And not just by a little bit.

Strangely I find myself looking for the M5 keys over the weekends and not the Z4M keys. Some would say "but why, the Z4M is faster" yes it is, but the M5 makes me feel part of history. Part of the last Hand built cars BMW produced. Part of, a Legend.

So Today I took it out for a drive, again :) and whats amazing is that I thoroughly enjoy driving the car slow and fast. The Z4M I only enjoy driving fast.

And on my way home I took a nice long detour, just so I can prolong the sheer driving pleasure...

I've owned faster cars and slower cars. Newer cars and older cars. Bigger cars and smaller cars. But boy this car makes me feel special.

The only sad thing about this thread is that I have not yet had the chance to take more proper pics of this masterpiece of restored engineering.

In conclusion I want to say a special thank you to Richard for producing something I never would have been able to accomplish, and for giving me the chance to experience BMW from an era I only dreamed of as a child.

My thanks and testament to something truly beautiful and special

The BMW E34 M5 :praise:

Andy I guess it could not have gone to a better owner.

Having had the privilege of driving the car I can only second your sentiment.

Richard being the OCD guy he is has executed all work on the car with the greatest care and attention to detail.

I will use this thread to post my own updates on the car. Not that it will be very significant compared to what has been done :) I hope I can maintain her in the best of nic and improve the little bit where I can.

What a write up.
I feel like giving a e34 m5 a shot.
:bravo:

Believe me I was skeptical at first as well. It does help to have a passion for the brand. I think it's not the E34 that speaks so loud to me, but rather this particular car. I would only want this one. None other to call my own :)

Congrats Andy on an absolute beaut as well as to Rick for keeping it in the condition it is.

As cars age as it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain vehicles and mileage is put on.
