Lets discuss: The coupe 3 series will be badged M4...

It has been confirmed, by many sources, that the coupe will be badged M4, and the sedan will be badged M3.

So the M3 coupe, will be no more.....

Everyone will now lust after the M4.....

I understand the marketing reasoning, of creating a different name tag for the coupe, to compete with Audi, as they have the A4/A5....

I still think the legendary M3 badge belongs on the coupe!

What do the fanatics say?

I agree 100%, the original M3 was a coupe, it is how I identify the M3 to be, i.e. a coupe throughout its history.

Not sure why they would would want to tinker with that tradition.......

Will the new ''3 series'' coupe be called a 4 series? i.e. Will they be badged 428i, 435i, etc? or is the only the coupe version of the M3 called the M4?

They have butchered the legend that was the M3...

The first ///M 3 was coupe... so why now the change... Idiots. M4 and 4 door kind of makes sense.

Morons... Who taught them maths...

Very highly pissed off.

If I buy the new F82 M4... the first thing I am doing before even leaving teh dealership, is ripping off the 4 and pasting a 3 on there.

You car correct on the first part of your post. The coupe 3 series is now officially called the 4 series. Badge numbers will start with 4!

There is so much different models available now throughout the entire BMW range, I suppose this is their way of differentiating between the models.

Its gonna take a bit getting used to, but ///M3 is an icon not to be messed with.

Arent they making the new 1 coupe the 2 series aswell.

So its like 1 3 5 7 series 4 doors and 2 4 6 series 2 doors? Thats the only thing i could think of?

I don't really bother about badging on the cars any more. Except for my M3, I've always removed the badges on my cars for that "cleaner" look.

Well I suppose if they going to call the coupe the 4 series then the M4 label follows suit.

I think that they are trying to give the coupe its own identity, and seeing as the as the 3 series is known as a sedan first and foremost, it would be really going against tradition to rename the sedan.

They could have called it the M3 coupe but that will be at odds with the rest of the coupe range being called the 4 series, and goes against what they are trying to do with the new model identity.

I really dont have a problem with whatever they choose to call it, as long as it has the ///M before any number....

Strangely enough, the entire 6 series range are a coupes....
6 Series Coupe = 2 door
6 Series Grand "Coupe" = 4 door
6 Series Convertible = 2 door

So, I wonder if they going to do some re-badging there ???

They could keep the M3 Coupe as a 3 Series "Grand Coupe"... :fencelook:
