Need a tow from Durban to Johannesburg

Hi guys,

So my car has broken down in South Coast Shelly Beach, and I need to get it towed to JHB ASAP, The gearbox has packed up and I am going to be converting it to a 6 speed manual but I need to obviously get it to Johannesburg, Since I am going to be converting the car to a manual I don't mind getting it towed normally and doing further damage to the autobox as it will be taken out anyway.

Please if anyone is around this area and is going back to JHB please let me know if you are able to help and I will gladly cover any petrol costs involved.

Thanks.

i know plenty tow truck drivers that will go and fetch it for you on a flatbed

May cost you a bit, but towing a vehicle is not safe, especially such a distance.

No ABS brakes, no power steering (unless your going to be running the motor)

I am trying desperately to organize a train, I found a place on the net to do it for me but the number I call just tells me to book online, so I did that and they haven't yet contacted me, I need to be back at work on Monday so this is becoming a huge situation now as I need to get my car back to JHB before the weekend. :(

Not sure what to do, I found two other train places to do it for me now on the net but will only be able to contact them tomorrow.

AA wants R12 700.00 to tow my car from here to JHB :( and a tow truck guy quoted me a cash price of R6800.00 to bring my car to JHB, The price the train company's are asking on their website is R1290.00 which is allot cheaper since I now need to fork out a huge amount of cash to do the conversion! and to fix the current gear box will cost even more than the conversion.

Yea but you see the thing is car is classified as a non runner.

which means that it gets moved around, loaded and offloaded with... a Forklift....

You dont want that, trust me...

ALso, I know what happens at those yards with cars in storage...

By the way, did you know that if its transported on an open train, that the sport is to sit on the side of the tracks, and see if you can hit the cars with rocks.

Best bet, go rent a double axel trailer, take some tie down straps, bribe a buddy with a navara or something semi decent, and go fetch it yourself...

I cant tell you how many NEW cars I saw arrive at depots off the trains, and have every single major window replaced....

Considering toll fees, fuel costs and your urgency, I would say the tow truck is not too expensive. Perhaps your best bet at this stage..:=):

Non runner costs on a truck were around the 5k mark last time I checked.
Give the usual suspects a call (grindrod, vds, motorvia) etc

see if some one can do the conversion there, but if you do tow, would recommend a trailer and a good car or bakkie to tow it up.

if not then disconnect the prop shaft and tow with a proper bar and not a rope

hope you come right bud
