RE: running smoooooth!!!
Hows the 330d running now?

@george, the after pictures show fine bits, were the pics taken before a final vacuum/clean, or is it fine to have those small bits left over?

Are turbo diesel motor less affected by carbon build up than turbo petrol motors?

How long does this process take. I know that it would vary from vehicle to vehicle but what sort of time on these?

Are you mentioning the two last pics of the TFSI? Those are actually stains on the valves and not carbon left behind. We find this happens mostly on the AUDI A4 TFSI motor which is a hybrid of a TSI and a TFSI. Since then we have been using a buffer similar to what is used on nails and it partially removes the stains. The little granules around the valves are sucked out prior to assembly but taking the pictures at this stage is important to ensure on my side and for quality control that the clean was done with the valves completely closed. If there are no granules stuck the valves have to be opened and the combustion chamber sprayed out.

In general we would like the car in the previous night so we can start with a cold motor in the morning. This makes the carbon go hard when cold vs hot tar like when hot. Relative to the complexity of the inlet manifold the car is ready by 15h00 in the afternoon. A V8 takes a bit longer.
A Golf TFSI/TSI manifold takes us 1.5hrs to remove vs a 335 of 20min. This is a major factor in the time. There isn't a car we cannot finish on the same day though. We havent done a Lamborghini or Audi V10 though so that might be a different kettle of fish. Flyfun
