Experience and results with Carbon Doctor.
Hey guys,

Wanted to share with you my experience with Carbon Doctor and the results, for those of you who are considering using this service.

My Bro and I sent in our cars:
135 N54 with 72k km JB4+ Meth
135 N55 with 58k km JB4+ Meth

Dropped off the cars at Georges place in nice secure garages so they were safe for the night and after speaking with George I felt confident that they were in good hands, he has extensive knowledge of these cars!

Picked up the 135 N54 from George at Carbon Doctor last night after having the intake cleaned.
Seems my car had been pretty badly gunked up and had taken him longer than expected to get it clean. Was told to take it easy for the first 20km then reset trims after 50km as the car would be seeing much more air.

Driving out of George’s place the car felt shaky, was shuddering a little, just felt “scared” to go, but after 5 minutes it sharpened up and felt fine. Took it easy on the Highway for about 15-20 km then started opening it up. Felt smoother and boost was much higher than before, hitting 17.5psi tapering down to about 16psi on the auto tuning map 5 of the JB4.

After 50km I reset the trims and the car felt like a dog for a few km because the car now had to relearn everything. After about 5 minutes it felt a lot smoother than it has ever been.

I switched over to map 3 (meth map) on JB4 and did a few runs, the car felt Strong! Hits 17.5psi
and held it solid all the way to 6000+rpm (this is the max boost the JB4 can handle without the 15ohm mod or the G5 board).

I reset my consumption on the trip there and back. It went from 13 L/100km on the way over to 11.8 coming back (2 up on the return trip).

So in conclusion I am very happy with the results, car feels smoother, runs more boost and feel s like it got a nice little torque boost. well worth R2000 as a mod!

I would recommend it to anyone who has a high mileage N54 or N55, it certainly makes a difference (depending on how clogged up your intakes are).

I am happy the results where what was expected.

Here is a before and after the carbon clean pic of one of the ports of the N54, this car runs a catch can and water methanol:

RE: Experience and results with Carbon Doctor.
Here are the pics of the 135i N55 that we conducted the carbon clean on. It was also fitted with a catch can and water methanol. If you look closely in the before picture at 1 o clock you will see a opening in the cylinder head. This is a additional vent that BMW has inserted and it releases cam cover pressure into the head. It causes the right valve to be dirtier than the left on the N55. We have also noticed that the walls of the port have build up. Close to 1mm on each side. The stems are affected more than the valve base on the N55 and the build up sits exactly in the port when the valve is open minimizing the port size. Therefore on the N55 the look might not be bad when looking at pictures but the flow problems it causes are just as bad as the N54.

RE: Experience and results with Carbon Doctor.
Great work GS...very impressive. And for the car to hold 17.5 psi after the clean is a good indication of how dirty it was. Bravo

Ps. Time to throw away the old JB board (pre-15ohm) for a G5 iso. The old boards dont work well at altitude. Neither is it tuned to work properly on map 3 or map 5 ...its an on and off affair. PM me if you want assistance.

Thanks Twins, G5 board arrives next week, going straight to ISO.

Thanks man, everyone looks at the performance aspect but if you do your calculation carefully you can calculate that the clean actually pays itself off in fuel consumption in 18,000km. Bravo
