Hi there fellow BMW Fanatics

I would like to see a Hill Climb Series supported by local Motorsport and local Goverment so that we could get the go ahead by the organisers of the Knysna Hill Climb to start a Hill Climb Series unique to South Africa and on a National on going monthly type basis.

Please submit your vote that we can take these poll results and motivate the Hill Climb series to the likes of BMW and further to fellow Car Forums so that they could do the same with their respective brands of motor vehicles in view of sponsorship deals for the organisers making it more lucrative for both competitors, spectators and sponsors alike.

Each forum should create a thread with a 3 option poll and thread subject being the same namely National Hill Climb Series.

Lets see how far we can go with this as im sure there is a demand for such awesome events especially in lieu of all the illegal street racing going on.

Cheers Ed

I race the Simola Hillclimb in its 2nd year , which was great fun . Would like to see events like this in Cape Town accessible for both drivers and spectators

This is exactly why we only have 1 Hill Climb in this country, the people on these forums are not really too interested in Motorsport itself but maybe just the social side of being a member of a forum i think. 21 votes out of a forum they say have a few thousand members????:bangdesk:

motorsport is not accessible for most people if we made a low cost series with a focus on FUN then you would get interest...

And have you been to a hill climb like the Knysna Renault one which was that awesome? Simola golf estate is one of the wealthiest in the country and they want it every year cos its so entertaining? If we have 21 votes on a poll like this then i agree most people do not even know what a hill climb event is made up of, the amount of action and participation is huge but we will get there one day.

maybe hill climbs are not the right place to start? because the setup costs are very high once its all done...

maybe something like auto-X would be a better place to start to get more people interested then it can be grown from there...

lol fair enough but we need numbers to make this happen :)

maybe it would be better to focus one one event that can easily be planned and work it up to more events... that way startup costs will be less and people can start being exposed to idea sooner...

the question is where to have this event? lets start by identifying possible sites and deciding where will be best...

I voted Competitor but must echo Moranor's sentiments, costs are prohibitive.
Take myself as an example, I do have a track car and attend the odd track day. But I won't have the means to do a country wide series, not for financial and definitely not for logistical reasons. Just can't see myself shipping the car to say Knysna to do an event - more so on a monthly basis.

As it is I have entered a (JHB based) Gymkhana series and having trouble making all the events. Auto-X series is a cool idea, but really the same limitations would apply no matter what category of event. So yes, voted as competitor, but will I be able to actually attend all of it, probably not.

I'd like to compete, but for most people its just way too expensive.

If I could not afford to compete, I'd definitely spectate!

Guys there are the guys that can afford all the races in a series but thats not the point if each region has a once off support of 60 cars per province and 20 regular cars the hill climb can get momentum. we can have 7-9 races thats all and i will for sure make 80% of all of them and most other of that 20-30 as well with the bulk coming from the locals in each province.

here in East London we are far from everything....Aldo scribante track in PE is the nearest for gymkhana days for instance . We think this is a good way to start having a bit of fun and getting competetive if you can afford it .

A hill climb series could have 9 venues country wide . However you may get 50 entries per region with maybe 10 guys doing all events throughout the country . The Gudzeit family have their transporter going to Knysna with their cars on it , there may not be many who can do this .

Maybe the English motorsport models need looking at , they hold a hillclimb on a guys farm , yes it may be a track which is bad after the rain but our weather is better . Using public roads is also a problem with access for spectators being a requirement .

Knysna there were 80 competitors MAX as they were not allowing anymore entrants as to keep the event tidy. MAX guys in Knysna of all places moer and gone and it was better supported than most track days and drag events. I for 1 will be doing it every year until the 1M is too old. Its special and if the organisers of the Knysna Hill Climb can see there is support in other regions they might just host one and thats what this polll is about, if we then can get around all the car forums this would then give a better indication of support.
