Ideally you should get cold air induction (with a good heat shield or just get a drop in filter) and an exhaust before a chip to make the gains worthwhile. Not hundred percent sure where the best place to go is around your location.

Please share the advantages of mapping over chipping?

pre 96 cars had eprom chips that couldn't be flashed hence you needed to chip the car ie take out the old chip and replace it with a another eprom chip with tweaked software.Post 96 cars had reflashable eprom chips so you could map the car through the diagnostics port.In post 96 cars the chip was soldered into place making chipping a lot more difficult and hence why it needs mapping and not chipping....

the end results are the same.....

@ freerider I don't know any out there but I know some good ones in the UK...endtuning did mine and he knows all about mapping and chipping BMW's check out his website endtuning.com...I think he would be able to do yours but would be a case of removing your ECU and sending it to him due to it having EWS,it would take some time I am afraid so am sure you would be better off sourcing a mapper out there. You can contact him via his website for more information regarding anything about mapping and chipping

dont think that it is worth while to just chip your car,we have n/a motors, so the gains are small compared to forced ind. vehicles. so if you are planning on only doing chip, its really just a waste of money.
just my opinion

My 325 has a Dave-F kit and a chip and recently got 218bhp-not sure what that is in KW but if you think that stock a 325 is 192bhp that is some impressive gains...also the torque is much improved and there are now no flat spots...it pulls all the way through the rev range.
Another earlier model 325 without VANOS but with a decat and Dave-F and a chip with the same S/W got the same 218bhp figure-our cars were both RR'd on the same day at the same place.

I just debaffled my 328i airbox and put a K&N filter in, the induction sound is amazing now, even my wife says it sounds angry :)

Worthwhile mod on the E36, definetly improves the tone of the car if you still have the oem exhaust.

Do tell - What is a Dave-F Kit exactly:thinking:

We are long past changing a chip in the computer box! now its a removable piggy back chip 100 tunable and way more options than software has to offer!

By saying that are you referring to the Dastek UniQ?

umm yeah...where did you read differently-If you read my post again I say pre 96 cars had eprom chips that could not be flashed.hence why they are chipped.....Tuning boxes are a way to circumunavigate the EWS...any tuner worth his weight would be able to map a car with out the need for a tuning box...maps can always be put back to the original-cause a mapper will make a copy of the original.A live mapper gets better results than a tuning box

I am referring to the dastek uniq, and any other chip that can be tunen in real time! You must load the car on a certain rpm turn the tuning pot till you SEE it at it best on a real time screen and save. Then turn the fueling pot till the car is on say 13.2-1 AFR and safe.. How can any other method of tuning be better. Load map do run load map do run load map do run till it looks best. How can you certainly know you have every rpm range optimal tune??? Then that's full throttle map how about partial throttle and so forts?
Why I do like dastek is not because of a brand or any other reason than it has excellent tuning software to get every rpm and any throttle positions optimal setting! There will never be a newer map for your car. So many times you hear software tuners say his car is slower coz he has the old map! Dastek offers the best and optimal map the first time!! How can anything beat that?

Hahahahaha look at my grammar safe is suppose to be SAVE
