G20 330

Hello Guys

I think this is my second post since 2020.
I have the 2021 G20 330i, the car is on 85xxx kilometers now.

2 weeks ago, the car stalled and the gear stuck in neutral. Called BMW assist and their Techy said is the diff:oops:. The car was towed to Vereeniging BMW and the part was replaced. Last week it started making a funny sound when i start the car, this noise (grinding) could be heard during the auto on/off in traffic. Took it to Menlyn dealership and they replace the starter under motorplan. Has anyone experienced these 2 issues.

Lastly, when i have the sunroof on tilt, it rattles over uneven surfaces.

Are these cars worth keeping after 100k kilometers?

My Starter on my g20 M340i also packed up and had it replaced.
Best to get it sorted or you will get stuck away from home like i did.

The Sunroof creak is common across the G Series range. Bmw has a PUMA case for this that requires a few parts changed. Mine went it a few times and they got rid of it. Its been a few months since and hasnt returned.

Cool,

It can be a number of things.
Here is what i can remember:

First they put new grease and some kind of tape on the guides. (Issue came back a few hours later after fetching)
Next the replaced the entire sunroof. (Noise went away for a few weeks, then returned)
Went in again and they said the noise was from the roof lining. replaced the clips (Went away for a month or 2 and returned)
Next they put insulation on the roof clips and some of the plastic trims. Its been a good 6 months and no creaks yet.

@Tlhogi M Did you have the car from new?

For interest sake, how much do you use the auto start/stop or do you turn it off each time you get into the car?
Also did they replace your diff? I assume you got a report from BMW. Do you do a lot of hard pull aways or go sideways / spin at all?

unfortunately not, not from new. I only turn off the start/stop function in heavy PTA traffic. Yes, the diff was replaced under motorplan.
No going sideways, I'm not skilled for that . The car is mostly driving in Eco pro mode.

I am not a mechanic but diff replacement for a car with that mileage which is mostly driven in eco pro seems odd.
However we have no clue how the previous owner drove the car I guess.

At least motorplan covered it, diff replacement is not cheap.

I took the car back to Montana Dealership this morning. There is "humming" sound coming from the rear wheels
While it is there they will change brakes pads (due in 2500 kms on the computer) and i asked if they can do an oil change (due in 3500), hopefully they will agree to the oil service.

I think i bought a lemon

Do let us know what they find to be the issue with the humming noise.

How long have you had the 330i for and did you purchase it from a BMW dealership? May be worth considering extending the motorplan for peace of mind considering all of these issues popping up.

Plot twist, the diff was not replaced. Vereeniging BMW replaced the side shaft, this is according to BMW Montana who has the car at the moment. Jesus christ, this is getting dark.

Side note; what's the guideline on getting a courtesy car? Is this dependent on the dealership or BMWSA being generous.

As far as I know, it's at the discretion of the dealership.

It is dealer discretion, I had a 2024 G20 330i for 3 weeks while they had the F15 in for the 100th time for noisy brakes.
