2019 M5 Competition

After having my sights set on owning a super car and having said dreams shattered (my income bracket not being anywhere near where it needs to be to own and maintain one comfortably) and realizing they're just not suitable for anything other than the Sunday blast I started looking at BMW's again.

This came up recently on the forums for a steal so decided to go have a look. With new M5's sitting around 2.6 mark with a few nice options I couldn't pass this up.
No accident comments on the plan, nicely spec'd and balance of 5 year m/plan with 2 years extension available. On paper a no brainer...

The vehicle has a few cosmetic issue but the body is straight with no signs of major accident damage. Panel gaps, rubbers, plastics covers throughout all look to be as they came from the factory. Interior is decent for 60k km's too. Needs a good clean up and the leather is crying out for some love.

Im also not sold on the M5 mats in the front, so will likely order originals.

Onto the not so good stuff...

On the trip down I noticed a serious shudder at about 180 to 190 so took it for wheel alignment and balancing this morning and then headed down to Wheel Collision in Durban North as 2 of the rims have a slight dent in them. Decided to get all 4 properly refurb'd, wil pick up Friday. All 4 have curb rash as well so might as well get them all done.

Next on the list is the front bumper needs to be redone and VPS'd (or some form of paint protection) needs to be redone as its peeling off.
Also the front wind screen developed a crack in it (top center), woke up Sunday morning to a surprise! Seems to be common on the F90's from a quick google search.

After the cosmetic items are all done im going to add some CF bits. Not too sure which yet but ill update this post as I go. Leaning towards CS boot spoiler and carbon front splitters.

And the usual personalized plate as its sitting on the GP plates still...

Literally impossible to keep the front bumper of a big M car scuff free. Can't see the corners! Nice car, I'm in the process of beginning my search for a replacement, and with the prices of these M5CPs coming down nicely now it's definitely a far more attainable car than it was a year ago. So it's one of two cars I am now looking seriously at to replace the M6GC in the next 6-8 months. Love that colour!

Those are a bit more than I'd expected to see but even having it re-sprayed you've still done very well value wise... and its been resprayed already so not much point trying to rescue it. PPF would definitely help. I would check out an ARC. They will give you a surprisingly good deal on paintwork! They got my Marina Bay Blue 100% at Auto Body Specialists.

@Bugger these things have sensors everywhere and 360 degree camera... so that argument doesn't exactly work :ROFLMAO: but yes she is a big girl to manoeuvre (although feels much smaller in motion).

Also at your next tyre change, switch to Pilot Sport 4S

G30/F90 M Performance mats are quite understated - There's a version without any M performance wording (Deago organised these for me) - just have the stripes on the edge stitched in. I'd go with those. Not a fan of these with the tacked-on M5 logos

Only thing I would highly recommend for future is the M Performance titanium exhaust... if you want OEM pops and bangs :ROFLMAO: Its probably the single biggest factor that made me buy my one over all the ones I'd driven before over a long period of time.

Llew, let me have that one at least please. My crappy ability to maneuver my car shouldn't be brought to light if it's all the same 🙈. To be fair to myself, I don't use my 360° cameras that often. Ok I should use them.

Agreed on the tyres, the Pirelli's aren't as good as the Michelins. Personal experience and opinion.

Theyre really nice cars and go like theyre on rails with the 4WD. I would say go for it

Yeah it is disappointing to have to refurb all 4 rims and replace a bumper right out the gate but still dont feel too bad at the price.
Interesting you say its been resprayed already? Something i missed?

Im looking at going full ceramic coating once all the bits and pieces are sorted out

100% agreed, I did the same with the F10. The Pirellis had this tendency to almost feel like they were bouncing when they werent warmed up.

Ill look into those mats. Agree the M5 badge looks really tacky on floor mats.

The car is pretty loud already, I get enough pops and bangs revving at idle when its warm. Ill post up a clip when its back from wheel collision.

I'm leaning towards it, but there's something very special about the other one I'm seriously considering, and it's not a BMW (oh wow how's that for sacrilege on this forum!).

I've driven a couple of First Edition F90's and that AWD does inspire confidence. So it's ultimately going to be a tough choice.

The pic with the PDC sensor - the sensor itself as well as the edge of the bumper there - might be the lighting and angles though.
It also had the same M Performance carbon splitters as mine, but seems those were removed also - you can see the outline.

The exhaust is easy to spot. Doubt that the stock tips fit the titanium exhaust... but anyway worth checking. Owner might have wanted a stealth setup. The stock comp exhaust looks nothing like this. It has a very narrow little box in the middle and two much larger mufflers to the side. Titanium below:

Also... if you have not done so already, have the motorplan transferred to your name as soon as possible. The dealers normally do this for you, but if it was a private sale then you need BMW to do a check on the car and do the transfer. This also gives you access to the rest of the BMW platforms and owners circle where you can extend your plan, change details/connected drive services etc.
