I can't imagine how good this must feel on a pass! You're in the right province for this car.
Yeah, if my work took me to JHB I am not sure whether the car would work on the roads there, it'd become even more of a weekender.

For reference the use case at the moment is 1-2x in the week (usually on the days I leave very early for work to avoid traffic and actually enjoy the morning drive and then just leave work early to avoid the worst of traffic home). And generally a Saturday/Sunday AM drive (probably 3/4 weekends).

I used the wash kit my BIL got when he had a Q3, it came with some microfibres and all sorts. Actually pretty decent Audi branded stuff. I'm not the most pernickety about cleaning a car though. One of the small "perks" about having crossley apply the PPF and do ceramic is that a clean there is discounted to R250 - still expensive, but doable for a proper clean every 3rd month or so. In fairness a lot of the car cleaners these days are charging R200+ as their normal clean - so I'm happy to pay that.

I should join the Porsche Club at some point. TBH I've hardly had time to think the last few weeks with work and life, this weekend is the first one where I even had the chance to enjoy the car at all for a while!

View attachment 16727Headed up Franschoek pass this weekend and then spent the loadshedding sunday slot on giving the car an exterior lean. Wheels aren't dirty enough for me to bother yet (also I got lazy). When it's clean and shining Gentian Blue pops in a way only a few other colours in the normal Porsche pallete do. If I had a lot more money I'd have loved a fully sonderwunch interior and a PTS colour - but in terms of what is readily available for not-obscene costs, it's hard to look passed this combo.

The passes are always a pleasure to drive, even if my pace remains sedate as I slowly acclimate to the car, the limits of grip remain extraordinary though, the car remains a joy.
EPIC Pic!

R250 is a bargain for them to wash and maintain it bud!

Agree the colour is really something else compared to others available.

First of all congratulations!!!!
The level of envy is relatively high:giggle:

Many times I have thought that the GT4 is the only real upgrade over the Z4M. Unfortunately for me that additional R2M on top of the Z4 is waaaay out of reach, so Z4 it will be for my foreseeable future.

Enjoy it in good health:cool:

PS - I am trying to see what seats you actually have. Pics only have the delivery covers on.

Standard seats, I considered the 18-ways but they're a hefty premium and most of the adjustment is via bladders - my imagination suggests these will eventually degrade and cost an insane amount to fix/replace.

I initially spec'd LWB - but my order slot didn't have them (and PDLS+) available. So it was take the slot and the car without those or wait to see if another slot opened.

I'll take a pic when I have the car out again, likely Friday, of the interior better lit.

Thanks!

Promised some interior pics - forgot to take them till I got home so forgive the shitty angles (i'm no photographer and our garage is a huge pain to get in and out of)

Car is filthy dirty after being out in this rain but no use cleaning it until we have a clearer day.

I do think the LWB seats give the interior a pazzazz that is hard to match. But I'm quite satisfied with the base seat - it's supportive and bolstered enough without being a chore to fall into in the way the LWB can be.

Overall the interior is simple and purposeful the extended leather increases the feel of quality materially and the painted bits give it a nice flash of colour.

The steering wheel itself is magnificent. Z4M drivers know what a good steering wheel feels like in terms of size but the thinner, harder rim of the porsche unit does (IMHO) elevate it.

Certainly the new 992 gen 911s interior is fancier and higher tech but the Cayman more than holds it's own as a pleasant place to be.

Managed to finally find a vaguely clear day to take my old man out for a proper drive in the car. Nothing to spirited (it's a bit damp out still!). I am still far from confident in the car so very circumspect but the limits of grip always appear so distant, even on a pass on slightly damp roads heading into corners always feels a bit "gulp" and then the car just appears to stick and turn in extremely easily as you zoom through the bend.

One thing I've failed to mention is the difference between extended leather and not. I can't fathom why anyone orders any porsche and doesn't spec extended leather. Even on older models it elevates the interior (compare a non extended leather 997 to one with). Not too pricey an option but one that takes it levels above in terms of the feel of comfort and fanciness.

I'm now fully run in (a lot of argument online about 'what is run in'), but consensus is between 1500 and 3000km, I've cleared the latter by a bit now. Car gets up to temp relatively quickly (faster than the Z4M did) but the digital gauges do give you a better idea of how the engine responds to throttle (you can watch the pressure change!).

So, not much to report really. I'll keep posting when something spectacular does happen. I have decided that I want my GT4 badge in silver, it sticks out bizarrely in black and is quite annoying - OEM costs around 40usd (https://automotivegemag.com/product...ter-badge-trunk-lid-nameplate-for-porsche-oem), so I'll check next time I pop into porsche if they can change it for me/what they charge, shouldn't be an absurdly expensive thing to do so I'll take it from there.

Sadly, something spectacular happened.

Some idiot managed to rear end me at a red robot. Unreal the quality of degenerates we allow on the roads these days...

Anyway, car is at Porsche as we speak, looked to me like just the bumper had been scuffed up - fortunately the lights and everything else looked fine so I'm hoping it's a paint and polish type story... But obviously there's the bumper hangers that might also be damaged.

Worst part is the distance in which this dumbass crashed into me was literally 200m. I'm convinced he saw my car and decided to "show me a thing or two" (he may have been drunk).

I am most unimpressed with the Police response. Even after I communicated that I believed that he was under the influence to the dispatch officer at our local station she basically said "there's nothing we can do". Sigh.

Anyway, hold thumbs that there's no underlying issue and that it's just a ding on the plastic shell of the bumper:WhatsApp Image 2023-07-17 at 09.17.38.jpeg

From this angle it's actually hard to even see the damage which is what gives me slight hope... But yeah, lets wait and see.

Just to give an idea of *HOW* dumb this fuckhead was, I've drawn a map to communicate his stupidity...

So in around 200m he managed to speed up, lock his brakes and hit my rear end. Suffice to say I was close to throwing the fool off the bloody bridge.

Sorry man.
I am sure Porsche Body Repair will sought you out and that your insurance will cover it (since the car is on Plan, they are obliged to use Porsche Centre repair).

Sorry to rub more salt, but even if the damage is minor, your car will get a label of "accident damage" on the Porsche system. When I sprayed my rear bumper after a minor scuff, I got that comment added to my car.

I would advise that you confirm the wording of the comments after the repair so that it does not tarnish your car's history when you need to sell in future.

Oops, sorry man, I hope nothing major is broken.

Sorry man. Seems the level of driving skill, common sense and respect on the roads keep getting worse. Not sure if licenses are handed out for free on some street corner and usually when they mess up they look at you as if you did something wrong.

I was walking back from the mall a few weeks ago and some "box" decided to park his car switch it off and wait in the exit of the parking. Two elderly ladies asked him to please move so they can get out. He told them "f" you go around me. Now that will mean partially going onto the curb. As I walked pass his car I asked him how he can be so wrong and so rude at the same time. How can he think its normal to park there when there are so many open parking bays and asked him if he would he be ok with someone disrespecting his mom like that? He told me to mind my business so I put my parcel down and asked him to please get out of his car and say that again. He started his car and moved it.

Yeah, this is part of what sucks a lot. Gladly the comment system is pretty comprehensive and the value isn't hit that badly (for reference there was a GT4 for sale around when I placed my order with a R250k comment on it and the pricing (to my mind) didn't reflect that. Unless there really is something mechanical broken I can't see this being a value detractor (it'd require somebody exceptionally anal otherwise I'd say!).

Yep

The quality of driving since I got my license (less than 15yrs ago) is *materially* worse. Running red lights, weird lane changes. A part of me feels like it's part of a greater decline in mutual respect people have for one another. Oh well. I've always been so careful *especially* with this car so to be knocked when entirely stationary leaves an exceptionally sour taste in my mouth.

thats a kak one, but if theres one thing that Porsche excel at, its fixing their cars, And if they do it themselves,
there are no comments on the system, which is also a + as it doesn't devalue the car.
