Hi Fanatics,

Compliments of the season,

Does anyone know what are the actual benefits to installing an aftermarket down pipe other than the advertised performance gains and the sound.

Will it improve longevity of the engine and turbo, will it lead to a more efficient running engine and components ?
It does improve longevity of the turbo as there is less heat build up and throttle response. Power gains are minimal.

Another advantage is, you can tell you buddies "ya boet I got downpipes" and get some street cred. Fencelook
and some more pops Thumbs

DP will help release exhaust fumes faster allowing car to breathe better
Also Assisting in turbo spool up faster

oh, thought you had some actual data.

Just be careful you dont talk about your DP with your mates and let your Wife\GF hear.

They think DP is something else completely.

from my experiences previous

no significant power gain
but
because the exhaust flow is improved, the throttle response seems to be just that much more instantaneous, which translates to a better/faster out of the blocks, and getting on the power after a gear change....which translates to the "impression" to the driver, that it has more power.

I have no experience with doing down pipes on TURBO cars, so cannot agree or disagree with the increased reliability of turbo's

So dynos lie ?

Thanks for all the information guys
if you have a blocked cat and your downpipe removes that then thats also a benefit.
From personal experience, i feel a more responsive car in terms of acceleration, and if kept on cruise control in a before and after test i notice that i average 0.2l/100km less of fuel with the the downpipe on.
So it is more fuel efficient too.

Thats enough benefits for me...oh and such a lovely sound when combined with a M perf silencer smile bounce

I didn't say that
All I said in my previous experience of owning an exhaust/tyre shop

No Dyno data to back up with
only did Golf's and Corolla's and Kadett's, etc
Just my 2c My car (Audi A3 2.0T) was bought with a full RGM DP and Zorst, The dyno after all the hardware was fitted showed a increase of 20kw.

So there is a gain with fitting hardware to turbo cars, more so then to NA ones atleast

yeah the can.. If the correction factors are wrong Rofl
On my NA 330i, I made 117wkw and went up to 121wkw after removing the headers and replacing with catless headers and downpipe to collect before 1st flange.

So definitely a gain for me and this on NA, I believe the gains are more on Forced InductionThumbs

@ferdibotha 's 330d went from 730nm to 752nm and stayed at 222.8wkw after fitting a DP,so a gain of almost 3% on torque only isn't very much,but it is a gain nonetheless.
