RE: Intercooler sprayed

Best comment which explains the problem Rofl

"Here's the thing, for the guy who just wants to make his car faster, and not understand the science on how it works, the MCM video is misleading, but if you actually listen to it, they tell us that the black paint only improves cooling at a stand still, when the intercooler is mostly just radiating its heat. This is true, but our friend with EE up there is right too when he says that an intercooler is designed to cool by convection not radiation. before anyone else comments on this, I suggest you google the difference between radiation, convection, and conduction if you do not already know what they mean. In conclusion both MCM and EE are correct. black paint will NEGLIGIBLY improve intercooler efficiency at a stand still, but it is more detrimental if your intecooler is exposed to sunlight. At speed, the extra layer of insulation will inhibit your intercooler's ability to convect heat, again NEGLIGIBLY. Bottom line: do what you like best. Moog puts a black IC on his Silvia, not because its more efficient, but because it was more "stealthy" and that's what he wanted. I am leaving mine shiny, because I am insecure, and in the caveman part of my brain, I want attractive women to see my intercooler and know that my car is turbo so that that they will equate my car's performance with mine in bed, even though every woman I have ever dated couldn't tell her tits from an alternator.

Big fan of both Engineering Explained, and Mighty Car Mods "
