Another E36 328i Track Build
So having done the final payment yesterday to Leonard from Dent Doctor in Boksburg (forum sponsor if you didnt know it already) I will be picking up the car on Saturday morning. Joy

The car is in a very bad state and is an auto, but it should be a fun project. I will be doing it slowly over hopefully, the next year.
The paint work, in Leonard's words is not perfect by his standards but after some polishing of a small area by one of his guys he has offered to do the entire car for me and I think it will look good enough for the track.....so at least one thing that I dont need to do. (Thanks Leonard.)

The plan is to tow it home on Saturday and start stripping it out totally and give it a good clean up, then to make a list of jobs that need to be done. As you may have read the interior is totally shot and will be sold for the highest offer even if it is R10, and any funds of the sale of parts will contribute to the build, so watch the for sale section and make me high offers; as they say every cent helps. Biglol

So far the list of things to do is:
1. Strip out interior and unwanted electrics as well as aircon etc
2. Manual gear box conversion
3. Electric fan conversion
4. Roll cage
5. Racing seats
6. Service
7. Suspension (coil overs, bushes, etc etc)
8. Exhaust
9. LSD Diff

Any other advice/recommendations?

Hopefully the above list will be completed by the middle to end of this year funds permitting.

I am a beginner and would appreciate any constructive criticism as I go along.

Here is the first bunch of pics taken in Leonards very busy yard so please excuse the quality of them. please note that this vehicle was not sprayed by Leonard's team. Their work is far better than whats be done on this vehicle.

Great to see the thread started! Good luck with the build, you're going to have loads of fun I'm sure! Make sure you have screw drivers, a complete socket set as well as Torx, they hide those things here and there in various sizes just to frustrate a person I'm sure of it!

Congrats bud. This will be a fun project.

Maybe just wrap the car after you collect it. Will be cheaper than a respray and can make the car look much more appealing even if just for track use.

Thanks.

The paint work is actually not to bad (i will see it after some magic has been done this week) but yes there will be some stickers applied eventually I am sure. A full wrap will not be necessary though.

Fortunately I have wrapped a few vehicles in the past so will be able to do that quite easily should I need to.

My focus will be on cleaning it this weekend, removing the interior and listing the parts needed to get it running as a manual. Then the games will begin.

RE: Another E36 328i Track Build
This weekend I collected her. Unfortunately she wouldn't rev. She would start though and run really badly. We thought it was fuel so on the way home I put some fuel in. Still no luck.
BTW a E36 with flat tyres is frikken heavy to push up onto a trailer. Thanks again to Leonard and his team for the help and coke. Bluebiggrin

Started cleaning her inside and out. Filled up an big dustin with rubbish that probably weighs close to 100kgs.
I also removed the aircon compressor and piping.
And the enterior

And started making a list of items needed. Its a very long list.

RE: Another E36 328i Track Build
No I don't but my motivation was to make it look a bit better as it was in a terrible state. I also had to use a razor blade to clean over spray off most of the windows. Thankfully the paint looks ok with only a few blemishes that can be covered with a sticker or two Bluebiggrin
