koni is a decent spring or u can go eibach if theres budget restraints, but the question is how high/low is the back? Maybe your back shocks or f*cked and thats why it sits lower?
You could also go get ghetto and just heat the front springs up to compress them but that will make for a very bouncy ride.
IMHO, dont really need shortened shocks for a 40mm drop....

Since its only a 316 there should be no need to fork out for koni, eibach or bilstein.

Just get a kit off autostyle :fencelook:

Applicable to a golof, with an e36 anything shorter then 30mm and you gona need shortened shocks.

Agree, I would buy cheap springs rather then heating/compressing standard springs.

I am convinced that eibach make the best springs they have perfect balance between handling and comfort...

Make sense.

Autostyle have a Koenic Lowering kit for R1200 but it says suitable for 6 cylinder E36 only and a Jamex for R1500.

Would the koenic do the job (the 6cylinder version) or should i go Jamex?

could be, but they almost double the price of others

@Doomsdaya : so if i take a 40mm lowering kit, then the shocks i got quoted for at supa quick wont suffice?

Woah..... 1st of all what size mags & tyres you got ?

Your car looks like a 4x4 :) I dont remember seeing my standard 328i sit so high  but I suppose its because yours is a 4 cylinder motor, which brings me to this......

The difference between the 4 & 6 cylinder springs is that the 6 cylinder springs got more retention to accomdate the havier engine, so if you were to put 6C springs, your car will sit a little higher then the 4C springs.

With regards to shocks, if you drop it by 40mm & fit standard shocks then its not gona last long. Gabriel only make 1 type of shock for the e36 and those are for standard height only. Monroe got different range for both standard & lowered heights. The cheapest Monroe shocks for lowered e36 is something just short of R4k that I've seen.

looks like your car has too much power so the front lifted from all the pull away:roflol:

i have the same problem, my joke above is only one of the many jakes i could make cawz my friends find it amusing :roflol:

anyways, heres the question, u have a 316i, what would the effect be of having 6 cylinder springs in front? common sense says that the 6 cylinder springs take more weight, so maybe your have 6 cylinder springs in front? unless you have the car since new, youll never know. im assuming thats the same prob im having.

does anyone know what the difference is between the 4 and 6 cylinder springs with regards to identifying them without taking it out?

just a warning to anyone that laughs at our 4x4's, we can drive over your car easily!:roflol:

i 2 wouldnt heat or cut springs!

i just looked again, my back wheels sit with the arch by the tyre, which i think is normal, my front sits like yours.

for as long as i have the car and changed the mags, its been like this. its 17" 205x40x17 (i think) and its a Lenso Works mag.

i never bothered changing it since i got it coz i could easily get in and out my office without any issues.

apparently i need to change my shocks, so figured i'd do this one time. seems like such a mission for something one would assume is very common.

i thought the car would actually be lower and bounce float on the road while driving if it was the shocks that were worn. hence i thought its the wrong springs.

i just got a quote for coilovers. u reckon this is a better buy instead of buying a lowering kit and then matching shocks?

Looks like i'm going with the coilovers (R3600 per set TuningArt). apparently the ride height is so high coz it has the wrong tyres on.

dont really care since the coilovers will sort out both my shocks and springs issue.

The rear arches are lower than the front on the E36
