Sup peeps.

So, randomly today I decided to dyno my car just to see if things were ok.

I went with a mate of mine who said he was surprised at how well the car does in power, but he thinks my torque is quite low.

The mods on the car are a M50 manifold and exhaust box change.

Do you guys think a remap will sort out the torque issue?
This is the 1st time ive ever done this sort of thing, and in general it would be cool to know what you guys think about the results....good or bad.

Thanks all.

Thats a decent amount of horses seeing as you are in the highlands of SA, but your torque is definitely a bit low, my e36 328i with branches and exhaust put out 131kw and 240nm at the wheels.

If add 17% to your results to simulate being at the coast, you will have 120kw and 198nm at the wheels.

The 328i is meant to be quite a torquey engine. I think a remap will definitely sort you out especially since you have changed your manifold and exhaust. You can expect quite nice gains in power and torque.

thanks veridico.

do you think I'm loosing torque because of the mods and not remapping? Also, will that remap gain be worth 3k?
I assume fuel economy will improve with a remap...provided i'm not speed racing.

?

You could be losing torque from having the M50 manifold without a remap - the M50 manifold has a bigger bore to it than the M52 manifold, and this is known to lower torque on its own.

A remap would make the car feel a lot more responsive and give you more go, it will also probably lower your consumption a little bit. It will take a long time to pay itself off in saved fuel though, but it will pay itself off in smiles.

The guys in the states have proven that the M50 swap only moves your torque curve over ~250RPM, it does not effectively decrease your torque. Unfortunately I cannot see the photostand pic :(

They recommend that after you do the intake you go and have the adaptions reset at BMW and then drive the hell out of the car for a few weeks before having it tuned, that way the ecu adapts as much as possible before you start feeding it with "false" values. makes sense to me.

Well, that all makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge.

Here is a photobucket version.

You definitely need to remap after doing the M50 conversion. My car also struggled until the remap was done.

Wicked.

You guys rock. thanks so much.

Will do an injector clean this weekend as I did notice a few high end reving smoke splutters during the 1st run....apparently its because i dont push the car that often......

will then organize the remap and re-post dyno run with comparative results.

forgot to mention that this run was done at FRC in Midrand....just in case someone was curious.:)

sorry for the late reply guys.

the cost of the run was 150 bucks. A remap will cost you roughly 3k +/- 300 bucks.

FRC are behind Gallagher estate, in Gallagher business park.

Thanks Xmax:)

lo my blackberry makes more torque than that! lol ;) get it remaped ... nOOb!

a turbocharged blackberry aint somethin to mess with.:nono:

Yeah my 2.0 M42 makes 134whp and 200nm at reef level, your 170nm is quite low.

well....yeah...we have established that it is....which is one of the reasons I posted the result. But I would like to know why....and IF a remap will sort it out.

@Novio - these guys are just making fun. Sure the torque is not great, and a remap will sort it out. Seeing as youve already been to FRC, deal with them cos Ive heared good things about them. Just didnt know that they were so close.

btw - just the look of your car is enough to scare off alot of would be racers. it looks wicked.

Torque curve is quite flat from 2000 revs till over 5000 , this seems wrong , it should have climbed from 2000 revs . Vanos working ?
" Drive the hell out of the car " ? Shame !!!!

VANOS is working, you can see it on the graph at 4k. What concerns me though is the fall off of power at ~6k rpm. With the M50 manifold your car should be breathing much better at the top, probably cant feul enough for the aditional air :dunno:
