Starter replacement - 1998 BMW 328i
Hi guys,

Ok, so my starter finally giving me bigger problems than ever before. The problem is that when I want to start my car (after the car is warm and all), then it doesn't want to start... it is just giving me a grinding noise that sounds like I just walk over a cat's tail.

So I did call Bemows, they offer me R1250 for a new one. Now here is my questions...

how long do you think it will take to replace the starter?
is there maybe a DIY page where I can just check on what to do?

Thanks for the support.

Does starter turn every time you turn the key ? Do you ever get the starter turning but not engaging the ring gear , i.e. a higher pitch whine of the armature turning ? Any good auto electrician can check it if you take it to them .

That is not a bad price for a starter, I think it should take around 5-6 hours to replace the starter. In terms of a DIY, I am not too sure, google search should probably best, but I have to add I had a hell of a time finding a proper DIY of starter removal on my e46 so I guess good luck is in order Bluebiggrin

should be 2 bolts (I have an old memory so I might be wrong) - need to get the car on a lift if you can or you will be on yr back a lot.
Should not take too long, but first thing, Take off the Positive on the battery.
Then the rest is history, and not too long, you just got covers to move and wires to remove.
